My friend has a problem that started whenever he starts up his computer eventually the entire screen starts flickering with multicolored static. It sometimes happens right when he starts up but sometimes he manages to log in before it happens, but eventually it happens.
He tried using another monitor but it did nothing, it still had the same problem, so he thinks it may be his graphics card.
Anyone have any advice?
did he recently change any settings in the Display properties? is there any way that you can change the settings to… say 800 by 600 or 1024 by 768? (just to see what happens). if that doesn’t work, don’t forget to change it back.
Is the time it takes for the problem to occur proportional to the amount of time the computer has been off? If so, it is likely that the graphics card is overheating or being taxed too much and crashes. You could check the event viewer to see if there is any kind of message about the time (if you can even get there)
Some things I’d check would be to a) press F8 before the boot screen and select Enable VGA mode. Also if possible open the computer and check for a fan failure on the graphics card, or an extreme buildup of dust on the card of in the case in general.
