Okay… There’s a problem with my Comcast internet.. Okay… Every so often It like goes off… The First 3 light of the modem go off and the First one keeps on blinking and it does that for a while… So I wait and wait and it comes back again and like 2 hours later it does it!! It really pisses me off… So maybe someone can help me?
January 5, 2005 at 2:09 am #111050colinMemberCan you tell us what all the lights mean please? Like which one is blinking? Power, local network, etc.
January 5, 2005 at 2:13 am #111045DavidParticipantHave you tried rebooting the modem as well?
January 5, 2005 at 2:20 am #111053AzNSoldierParticipantOkay the light here it is…
1st – Power
2nd – Receive
3rd – Send
4th – Online
5th (orange one) – PC ActivityYes I have tried rebooting the modem several times… Nothing worked.. The brand is a Motorola SB5100. There also is a StandBy button on top which I never touch.
January 5, 2005 at 2:32 am #111049Someguy03MemberDid you try contacting comcast? =) It sounds more or less like a problem with them.
January 5, 2005 at 3:13 am #111046DavidParticipantThat or your modem is shot. Contact comcast and explain what is going on. It seems as if you are losing a connection to the comcast network and it’s taking much too long to renew it.
January 5, 2005 at 5:34 am #111054AzNSoldierParticipantYes we have contacted them before and they brought over a dude… He checked it out and said It wasn’t the modem… and than we called comcast and asked if it was their problem and they said no?! So I got real pissed and nothing happened.
January 5, 2005 at 7:52 pm #111051DrBroccoliParticipantIf you can’t solve the problem with Comcast may I suggest a getting a different ISP?
January 5, 2005 at 8:31 pm #111047DavidParticipantHmm. I guess it might be your Network interface card – the port in your computer that connects the modem to it. May I suggest getting a new one? If it’s not the modem, that could very well be the cause.
January 6, 2005 at 12:26 am #111056LinuxAddictMemberWhen you reboot the modem do you just push the power button or do you unplug it. I sometimes have the same problem too and unpluging it usually helps. Otherwise do what Dave said.
January 9, 2005 at 5:24 am #111055AzNSoldierParticipantYes I do unplug it… I have no power button my modem all there is, is standby and when I press standby while it’s doing the blinking it doesn’t do anything… Also (To milltonbulldog09) there are no other cable internet companies in my area. I do not want SBC Yahoo! Dsl. Also (To David) I never thought of getting a new network interface card. I should check into that.
January 9, 2005 at 9:32 pm #111048DavidParticipantFor reference – a great cheap reliable card is a Linksys Etherfast Ethernet adapter – http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=33-124-107&depa=5
January 24, 2005 at 2:56 am #111052SpecializedMemberI have had problems similar to this, I called COX, my ISP and they came out. They tested inside at the modem, at my router, and at my pc. They went out and tested at the pole, the problem appeared to be that the voltages were off from the pole to the house, this was causing my connection to be dropped from time to time. If you have your ISP come out (comcast) theyre usually very good about that sort of stuff, they can diagnose your problem very quickly/easily. Call them up and see what they can do, otherwise, as Dave said, your NIC may be shot or out of whack. Buy/find a new/old one and use it- see if it makes any difference.
