MemberAs far as I know unless they have installed some kind of keylogger or similar program there’s no way they can trac your messages on Y! Messenger if you got the archive function disabled.

MemberThanks…how can I check for a keylogger? From the Add/Remove Programs?

MemberI recommend “Webroot Spy Sweeper 3.0” from “www.webroot.com”.
Try not to use Yahoo! Messenger for non-work related, YM do not have encryption, so all your conversations are displayed in plain-text to the network or system administrators if they do monitored the employee’s internet usages.

MemberBesides, a key logger.
If your network administrator is smart and also dependant upon the size of the company.
You will have some sort of packet sniffing device, to monitor and benchmark traffic.
If this is the case, then yes he can read all of your messages from yahoo.

Memberi have a friend working for IBM, when he talking with me at work he always being very cautious…..he told me don’t use those sensitive words like ****….Fu…k or slut or porn or naked……he said the company computer will do scan once a while when the messages inbound and outbound…and if they find some interesting parts the computer will auto record the datas than you might get a note..(don’t know if its ture or he lied to me)
i think bosses know their employees using messenger….my suggestion is dont use it too much, dont addicted in to chat, and dont make troubles……you will be fine.October 1, 2004 at 8:32 pm #70934chewiechic

They can see the messages even if I didn’t enable the Archive feature? Is there any way I can clear the system of any temp files containing conversations each day?
Would email be a “more secure” alternative than YM then?

Can I detect the packet sniffing device. Good thing is our company’s IT department is quite pathetic. They can’t even keep the spam from popping up in company email system despite running several “solutions”.

MemberThey can still view your conversations even though you didn’t enable the Archive feature by monitoring the employees’ usages (packet sniffing). And there’s no way you can know for sure whether they set up any packet sniffing unless they tell you.
As for email, it is not safer than YM unless you use encryption, such as PGP.
Don’t worry about the keylogging, according to law, they supposed to notify you whether they put a keylogger on your computer.

Thanks! I guess I will have to find out more about packet sniffing…I just didn’t want them to have access to some of my personal messages; even tho most of the message exchanged were for work purposes.
