ParticipantI believe Yahoo! are wise to have removed the goto on messenger.
It is a privacy issue of sorts and online sexual predators used it maliciously.
This may fall under the category “others ruining our fun”…however..
If i had chat buddies i would have them added, so no matter what my room is they could pm me.
you have to remember Yahoo! “Messenger” not Yahoo! Chat Client
Chat is on non european messengers as a somewhat obligation, Yahoo! can and will remove it without remorse.
MSN chat gets removed now mid october completely, since they scratching back’s now, yahoo! chat could be next.
As for the bot problem, well yahoo! ain’t the only chat service effected by bot’s and it sure won’t be the last.

KeymasterYahoo chat is better gone, then all ****ed up. But if chat is gone I have no interest with yahoo anymore.

ParticipantWell since Yahoo! chat is free offered such as, You have the choice to use it as much as they have to remove operational functions within its service.
However cursing about it on a online community does not make it any better or worse.
The only reason people can come up with is the “find my friends in chat” reason for yahoo! to keep the goto function, however if these people were indeed your friends, they would know your id to simple pm you even if they don’t have you on your “friends list” even since you claim they are your friends and same goes for you and the function to enter an id to private message from Y! Messenger is present.
It’s no secret programs like buddyspy used the function to “spy” on friends and other chatters, which in true fact is just as bad as following somebody about, and the removal of this function and the change in p2p packets have stopped this program working and in fact made Yahoo!’s stealth function Functional as it was made to be.
Yahoo! are making their application “work” and within every entitlement to do so.
As to not having interest in Yahoo! when or if they remove chat is entirely your right and choice as an individual.

KeymasterSorry Dermot i’m not really cursing about Yahoo chat. I just wish everyone would spend a minute to complain about Chat to messenger customer care. Two weeks after I started complaining about members directory, Yahoo started updating it!

MemberI’d sent complain e-mail to Yahoo! since 2 years ago about people booted other people out of chat rooms. But as you all can see, boot programs still able running on Yahoo!’s Script.
My Advise, just enjoyed, there’s no point complain about that something you get for free!. You don’t like it, just leave it !

KeymasterSomething is being done about chat rooms, they removed most rooms that you could not enter, but not the ones I was complaining about. I think today is the start of an upgrade to chat. Told you so, complaining works!

MemberEven so, it’s only a matter of time the script kiddies and bot makers find new ways to annoy us. Personally, I think they should shut Yahoo chat down.

ParticipantSo you’re gonna spend ages notifying Yahoo! so they just remove them from the roomlist server.
There are many rooms unlisted on Yahoo! that have been there years and people use them, mostly old european rooms before yahoo removed chat from that locale, so if yahoo choose to totally update the room lists and remove all these rooms that are and where working, you will be happy?..because you couldnt get into married but flirting?..to name just a few.
The fact is you’re nit picking now to find anything to complain about and doing so on a free service is pointless, granted Yahoo!’s service is not impecable but not many big companies are and specially when you pay for what you get, nothing.
Urging people to mass complain about Chat does not make them go and fix problems, it makes them delete problems, why do you think they are removing features in the first place?, because of complaints like what you’re doing.
After the child and porn offenses injunction on yahoo! they had put in place a list of “remedies” to stop their service being used as a “child sex” program by proving and listing these to these peoples and persons involved that they are doing so.

Keymasterno, I just complained till they started updateing. If they get rid of chat they risk being the smallest instant messenger community out there. Doing that will hurt them financially.
September 13, 2006 at 9:53 pm #151860Oreo
MemberHonestly, I do not think getting rid of chat will jepardize the Yahoo! market share in the least. They have other function, quite popular ones, both in IM and other realms. I think you are missing the point Dermot is patiently trying to make here. Complaining and wasting the time of busy people at Yahoo! will not achieve what you are seeking…it will just annoy them…people as busy as they are will not try to appease people who annoy them, they fix the problem quickly…by just removing the source of the problem.
And who is to say these updates they are doing have one iota to do with your complaints? They may have already been in the works. There are some things they are finally fixing that people have been complaining about for years.
I have used Yahoo! IM since it was called “Yahoo! Pager” and I remember well the day it turned into messenger. They take their time to correct things, except for the instance that Dermot mentioned, I have not seen them act quickly on many issues. But again, it is a free service…love it or leave it. I think it would be a shame if some of the old european rooms were shut down like Dermot mentioned just because they had to get rid of an entire set of rooms because of complaints. I have good friends I met in some of the Italian rooms and my husband still contacts some of the people he met in the Irish rooms and plans to visit them the next time we visit his family in Ireland. Maybe think about the big picture…shutting down chat and removing particular rooms will not hurt Yahoo! financially; it will hurt legitimate users.September 14, 2006 at 2:14 am #151865Dermot

Yes not all of us like to see ad’s but you have to remember it’s the ad’s that make the income for yahoo in the first place, why it is a free service and not a subscription based service in the first place.
You can’t have your cake and eat it as they say.

MemberI don’t believe it would make them loose all of their money. However I do believe it would put a nice dent in their pocket. Not includeing all of the people that might not use the messenger anymore because they got rid of the chat rooms. ( if they did ) As Dermot said, they do make money on the ads displayed within the messenger.
Edit: Yes I agree on the part that Yahoo may loose a fair deal of money if they did get rid of the chat rooms.
However, I don’t believe bugging the hell out of the Yahoo Staff is going to solve the bot and other problems in chat.
I have been using Yahoo Messenger for about 9 years now and the bots in chat have always been a problem.
You may be thinking about it in the wrong way, why not suggest to Yahoo that they add a feature like YTunnel,
to add a block feature, so when you block a name it is removed from the chat room instead of being just ignored.September 14, 2006 at 3:59 pm #151855Jeff Hester
KeymasterThanks Tim, wow thats the first time you agreed with me. :woot:
That is what I was trying to say, I know I would stop using the messenger!
Lets all bug the hell out of yahoo. pick a problem to complain about.
*Not being able to enter some chat rooms in the voice chat catagory.
*Not being able to scroll some list of rooms like in Romance subcatagorys.
*Voice keeps turning on when you change chat rooms.
*Only able to view nicknames in chat rooms, and not IM names. If you want to complain about chat. this is what you should say. it would get them to look at the chat rooms. Example:
“I am not able enter the chatrooms ChatterBox, ShowBiz Central, and The Press Box in the voice chat catagory. An error pops up saying
Chat Error: Room is Disabled.
I am using messenger version 8.0.0.716.”Use this messenger feedback that I provided, Chat feedback does not work. Sign in to Yahoo!
Note: You must lie about the error that pops up, if you say the error is “Chat Error, Create Room” all you will get from yahoo is, creating user chat rooms is disabled.
