MemberI have a pirated version of Lord of the Rings and it plays fine on my standalone DVD player. But when I put it into my DVD-drive on my computer, the icon in My Computer changes to ‘DVD-R’ but the label says ‘CD Drive’. And when I go to ‘explore’ the DVD, there’s nothing on it.
Does anyone know wuts wrong?

MemberCould be something to do with some sort of anti-piracy on your computer DVD player? Or perhaps the region settings are different. Make sure the region settings are the same.

MemberI downloaded AnyDVD so it should be able to play DVDs encoded in any region, right?

MemberNo, its not the DVD software which determines which regions are available to you. It is the DVD player. Have a look in the documentation which came with your DVD player, and see what regions are available to you.
Most DVD players have multi-region encoding anyway. Its just a case of you selecting the right region to use.

MemberWell, right now it is set to Region 1. And I only have 4 changes left on the dvd player on my computer, so I guess I really shouldnt change that.
I downloaded AnyDVD so I wouldnt have to change it. AnyDVD isnt a program for playing DVDs, its purpose is to let you play DVDs encoded in any region. Go to their site to have a look, (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html).

MemberJust because the software you have allows you to play DVD’s from any region, it doesn’t mean your DVD player is set to the correct region for your DVD.
Generally, the software you have won’t alter the configuration of the DVD player. As long as the DVD in question is compatible with region 1, it should be fine. If not, then it will be a case of having to change the region, which I understand you don’t want to do.

MemberWell, I wouldn’t want to if I have a limited number of changes. Is there a crack or something that will allow me to have an unlimited number of changes?
August 20, 2004 at 10:17 pm #39524MartinBradley
MemberNo, because the limited changes are part of the hardware, not the software.
Cracking is against forum policies too, sorry.

MemberHmm, then shouldnt there be a way that I can pay to get more region changes?
Why does it hafta be so complicated just to watch a DVD, its not like I’m copying it or anything.

MemberI don’t think there is a way to get more region changes, apart from buying a new drive when you run out, but you really don’t want to be doing that.
And you may not be copying it, but remember it is pirated, and as I said earlier in the thread, this could well have something to do with it.

MemberLOL, I’m going to. I’m just waiting for the special extended edition of Return of the King to come out. So for now, I gotta make do with this.
