Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaase Help me!! I came across this message board when I was searching for a solution to my problem and I hope that anyone of you people can help me.
I access Yahoo Messenger from workplace. When I joined this workplace, I was given a formatted machine, where I installed Yahoo messenger and it was connecting fine with “no proxies” connection.
Later, I was shifted to another machine which was previously used by another person and it already had yahoo msgr installed in it. When I tried to connect, it didn’t allow me to connect with “No proxies” and I had to connect using “Firewall with no proxies”. But I was able to connect.
Now comes the real problem. After all this I started noticing that I wasn’t recieving Instant messages from lots of friends. This was when I received complaints that “Why are you not responding to my message??” kind of questions from my friends. This is happening all the time.
I have tried unistalling and completely removing yahoo from my computer (including the registry entries) and doing a clean install as specified in some websites. But it hasn’t worked for me. I have also tried to contact yahoo help but haven’t got any response from them till now. I also heard that they usually don’t send any response 🙁
Anyways, please give me suggestions on what I can do about this problem. I want suggestions preferably on how to ensure “No proxies” connection as I had no problems at all in that type of a connection for about 1 year. Also, many of my friends in the workplace are still on “No proxies” connection. So, I don’t think its the workplace firewall problem and it seems like a problem of the the computer I have been allotted or yahoo. And please don’t tell me to format the machine as it is a monumental effort if you understand what I mean.

Deeps.I also wanted to add that I can send instant messages, and the received messages (received long time back) usually pop-up after I message somebody or as offline messages when I disconnect and connect again. Also, some times, I recieve messages. The behaviour is very random and I cannot figure out where’s the problem 🙁
Most probably your workplace have some firewall or network software in place. Your new PC is using this software, and as a result, its stopping the p2p transfers, which IMs with buddies go into to. This would be expected behaviour. As its stopping it, you’re only getting the IMs when you go back online as offline messages, as the yahoo! server started storing them for you.
Try the no network detection mode, see if that improves it at all.
i too had same problem.. i got message in group of 7-8 messages from friend and they complained me that i didn’t replying…. and even i logout or in invisible mode still i was shown online….
and now i won’t be able to login my account reporting “invalid user”
plzzzzz help usThanks Freddie :D, but “No network detection” is not working for me, it says cannot connect please try again or change proxy settings. I had already tried this before.
Also I can ping scs.msg.yahoo.com from my machine. I have noticed that that’s where it tries to connect to. Please heeeeeeeelp, because its as if I have lost a limb, if you know what I mean 😉
Can you ask an admin about firewall settings?
If the firewall is simply installed on your pc, open the settings, allow yahoo! messenger access as client and server. 5050 is used for connection, and others greater than and in between are used for p2p IMs when they occur.
If it’s not on your PC(very likely) you would need tech to change them all. 5101/TCP is used for p2p activity on IMs. It should be allowed server access on that port.
I’m not sure if the firewall option automatically blocks p2p options, and should make IM go straight through the server, but maybe bad coding within messenger is making it go like this.
Freddie, as you suggested, I will try to contact the admin about the firewall but somehow I don’t think that’s the problem. Let me state why:
Firstly, the person previously using my current computer was a friend. I have never heard her complaing about the same problem. She was using Yahoo msgr too and I saw her recieve messages all the time.
Secondly, if there’s some firewall problem, it should be applied to all the computers in the workplace right? But I have seen my neighbours and friends having connected as “No proxies” and yahoo is working perfectly well for them.
Thirdly one of my friends faced the same problem. He formatted his machine and installed yahoo msgr again and was able to connect with “no proxies” and its working out well. Its just my being adamant that I won’t format my machine maybe the problem ;).
So, I don’t know whether the asking the admin will work out, because it was one of the admin who suggested that I connect with “Firewall with no proxies”. So repeat Heeeeeeelp 🙂

I presume your PC is connected to the network in exactly the same way as every other PC?
Check ctrl+alt+del for any other processes on the PC that may be doing something.
Not sure what else it could be.
Hi Deep, I had faced the same problem at my school also.When u r behind a firewall u will have weird problems with yahoo.U will b online but u wont receive any msgs.U will get all msgs at once.Its because ur yahoo messenger is not alive ie it wont send packets every time and u’ll get disconnected from the network(UR LAN).Even if ur in invisible mode u wud be shown visible and all other bull **** when ur behind a firewall.The best way is to try web based messengers or messengers like TRILLIAN,ODIGO or MIRINDA and other IM softwares.I jus use the same dump messenger by refreshing the mesenger very often.Jus tell me if u have got ne new ideas.So that it wud helpful for me.

But I knew that the problems I faced were due to the “firewall with no proxies” connection. But as I said before, I was able to connect with “No proxies” on my previous machines. But only I am not able to in a computer where a person used to login before. So, I think it may be due to multiple users logging in the machine. I have deleted the other user’s profile, and all details from the computer. But it has been no help. If only I am able to connect with “No proxies” then there should be no problem. Any suggestions anyone?
Also, Freddie, to answer your question, I think my computer is connected the same way as any other computer in the network. So :(.
Its your workplace they got new programs blocking you from talking to certain individuals and yes the technictions can view what you send and recive on yahoo quite easily.

Thanks for all the inputs you gave me. I finnaly did something and its working absolutely well on “No proxies” connection now. Here’s what I did.
I uninstalled Yahoo 5.6 and deleted all entries having “Yahoo” and “ymsgr” in the registry. Restarted my machine and installed Yahoo msgr 5.5 and Voila!! It connected with “No proxies”. How about that!!
Anyways one good thing that came out of the whole thing was that I got acquainted with this forum. Great Going people!!
