Hello all,
Just a problem or two with Yahoo Messenger which I haven’t been able to resolve. My contact list doesn’t update itself anymore, like, when people sign on, it still shows them as offline, and vice versa. This happens with everything, changing of statuses and such. It’s especially annoying because when people sign in, I don’t know they’re online, therefore I get accused of ignoring them!
Anyway second problem, the two may be related, is that when IMing someone, the “…is typing a message” doesn’t show up anymore. Then I start interrupting people because I don’t know that they’re typing!
Both problems started at the same time, and I didn’t actually change anything. I’m wondering if anyone has any similar issues, as I’d like to figure out whether it’s a problem at my end, or a problem at Yahoo’s end.
April 26, 2006 at 12:22 am #143185williamleeMemberI have YM 7,0,2,120 – I had a problem with getting VM but instead of uninstalling and re-installing, I just installed over the top and everything worked great and even the lag I use to have seem to have vanished. I was always told to uninstall before installing a program but this time I didnt just to see what happened and I checked to see if I had it installed twice and well I didnt it just replaced it.
As for seeing when people come and go off line I never had this problem and I firmly believe it is a yahoo issue and until you get it resolved you may want to put a message beside your name that yahoo is not letting you know when your friends come on line so if they wanna talk then need to message you.
thats what I would do. But hey maybe if you try reinstalling over the top like I did it may resolve your problems I think it is worth trying. anyway good luck.

I am currently experiencing the same thing and so do alot of my friends. As none of us did major changes on the comps or installed new versions etc.,I think it’s just a yahoo issue as William said.
I don’t know why you can’t see your buddies typing anymore, but as both problems occured at the same time, i guess it’s a yahoo thing too. 🙂April 26, 2006 at 4:07 pm #143183Eagle_KiwiMemberHave u 2 (Martin & Niq) tried disabling firewall, just to see if that makes any difference ? (I’d assume so!?)
Also I guess try the latest (yesterday!?) 7.5.0.811 Beta version – it MAY have resolved your problem !?
Finally, I wonder if a manual refresh works for you ? With focus in YM main window, press F5.
(To test this, I find it handy to have myself on my buddies’ list, then change my display image. This doesn’t seem to automatically update, but then F5 does the trick – for ME anyway.)April 26, 2006 at 5:00 pm #143182tinethleMemberMartinBradley wrote:Hello all,Just a problem or two with Yahoo Messenger which I haven’t been able to resolve. Not sure how’d you resolve your first problem, but I have the exact same problem with with the IM “is tying message” thing, and I have never found a solution to my problem,I have a 3mb dsl connection/router/hardware firewall and configuring my router and firewall didnt help, the only thing I can attribute is that I’m lagging,I do have lowish ping times while connection to yahoo servers so that could be part of my issue.
Have you tested on other ID’s?
April 26, 2006 at 5:43 pm #143181MartinBradleyMemberThanks guys. I’ll try the new version, I wasn’t aware that it existed. As for the firewall suggestion, I don’t think it’ll be that as the problem occurs on two different machines, with or without a firewall.
I’m siding towards it being a Yahoo issue, but I’ll let you know.
