What’s really sad is when asked (verbally), a great number of Americans did not know what year the War of 1812 began. [:o] Whereas, that might be easy, without checking it up on the Internet, can you name the combatants, the president at the time, and the causes? (High school Juniors may have an edge on this one with finals approaching…try to let the older people answer this one…kids, you’ll be amazed at your ability to forget when you leave university!)

Edit: To answer one of the burning questions above, the FDIC is the Federal Depositor Insurance Corporation, started out of the Glass-Stegall Banking Reform Act of 1933. It’s important b/c without it, your money would not be insured in the bank. It was a New Deal program under FDR to prevent problems that happened following the Great Crash in 1929. (Just taught this not too long ago…it’s somewhat fresh in my mind.)
