I was thinking, maybe after you get 1000 posts, you can have your member title changed to something else other than “super member” as thats the end of the line.
Yes, no?June 7, 2003 at 6:53 am #95317BrianMemberSounds nice… but don’t you think that’ll only encourage off-topic post-whoring??
At one of the bulletin board where I am a member of (nothing related to BigBlueBall), the administrator/owner had to take the member rank out because most members were post-whoring just to get their numbers up and compete with other members. It was really annoying big time.
It’d probably be too much for Jeff to do this.
Such is already available at most vB bulletin boards/forums that you can do by yourself without administrator’s help.
June 7, 2003 at 3:42 pm #95310Jeff HesterKeymasterYeah, I had taken the count out at one point for the same reason. I’ve put it back in on a trial basis. I don’t want to reward members for how many posts they make, but for the quality of their overall participation.
But I agree that “super member” is lame. Maybe it should be “Needs to get a life” 😉
June 8, 2003 at 3:43 am #95318OctoberTheHottieMemberlol, i think that is funny, can i have needs to get a life status, please, please, please, please, please???? And that was said in a singing sort of way by the way, lol, j/k…… see, there I go again, told you, BBB brings it out, lol.
July 7, 2003 at 1:40 am #95314Mr. DiablosMemberOctober the Hottie… ain’t seen you around before. But how about seeing some more?
Custom Titles… I thought there was a thread of this before?July 7, 2003 at 4:43 am #95320coolguyj2MemberQuote:quote: Brian wrote:

I think all the posts for sections like “what makes u laugh” , or other topics should not be counted!!! I myself made more than 10 posts yesterday and see no reasons for my posts being counted!!!! As BBB is a IM forum, hence posts should inc only for contribution in IM!!! Also the reply to the Jokes are “heheh very funny” or “lol” or smthing like that!!!
so whatz the use??? just wanna increase ur post count???July 7, 2003 at 8:25 am #95315PhilMemberThis forum isn’t just for instant messaging…People should have the right to post off-topic conversations and for them to be counted in their post count but there are the occassional or should i say quite a few people who use it as an excuse to boost their count to give off a false status of “authority”. If only people would post when there was a need to, then there wouldn’t be any problem!

There are many people here who are helping members with problems with things they are unfimiliar with, such as KaZaA, and Internet Explorer, who are in other forums, that do not contribute to IM. I think its fine the way it is.
July 8, 2003 at 6:33 am #95319coolguyj2Memberwell while mentioning about Jokes I completely forgot about topics like Kazaa, Windows, etc! I had just jokes in my mind and replies for them,!!! so really sorry!!! I just want the number of posts for joke section should be reduced like for every 5 posts, there should be increment of just 1!!! I hope u like the idea
July 8, 2003 at 1:44 pm #95313magistykMemberFirst of all, that’s stupid and it would be hard to implement. The options are either count the posts or not, there are no other options for post countings in forums.
July 8, 2003 at 1:56 pm #95311rustedtightMemberIts interesting to note that during the time post counts were not shown there seemed little interest in them, now everyone is getting hot n bothered again n looking to increase their counts but to discourage others.
Do I detect division creeping back into the forums?July 8, 2003 at 2:23 pm #95316BrianMemberIt’s not that hard to implement if you know/learn some codes. This would be cool if when our posts are deleted (by ourselves or Moderators) and the number of posts would go down rather than staying the same numbers.
Another way to slow down on post-whoring is to limit numbers of postings for us to post per day. (This probably won’t be a popular suggestion here.)
I have noticed someone ‘changing hats’ by using two or more accounts (I won’t name any names) (not that hard to do a little detective job here.) That really turned me off to think some people do that just to add their numbers of posts. Why can’t one account be enough for us and let other people have the login names.
OK. I will hush for now.
