What people are saying: Aim+ is the same as Deadaim but only better because it doesn’t cost any money, but also might not be free for very long.
I want to clear all these issues up with everyone:
1. Aim+ is no longer the entirely compatible with AIM 5.0 and up disabling some of its features. Deadaim however if fully compatible with All aim versions. This puts a huge diffrence between them unless you wish to use older versions of Aim to keep Aim+’s features.
2. Big-O-software is not going to start charging or updating its program anytime soon. Under the “coming soon” page for Aim+ it says that they have no plans for any new versions. This means theres almost no chance of big-O-software charging for Aim+ unless they start the project up again. Coming Soon
3. Deadaim 4.0 does cost $4.00 but Jim decided that even though he charges for his newest version he wont charge for his previous ones, 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2.1, and 3.2.8. This means it is legal to download these versions although the farther you go back the more features you lose and the more bugs you run into. Here is a change log on the diffrent versions: Deadaim Change Log
Files:
Deadaim 3.2.8
Aim + 2.2.1
Deadaim 4.0
All Aim versionsAugust 10, 2003 at 4:27 pm #92116ShadowSlayer469MemberThanks for clearing that up for every one.
August 22, 2003 at 9:48 pm #92119cutie3168MemberTHe version of Dead AIM I downloaded doesn’t allow the logging of conversations. Do I need a new version, or do I just not know how to enable the conversation logging?

August 23, 2003 at 8:18 pm #92117BrdMc3Memberdeadaim is alot better than aim +.ive had both and deadaim is the best!
August 24, 2003 at 4:03 am #92118TigerbladeParticipantyeah i agree with BrdMc3 on that one… DeadAIM is much better than AIM+… BUT>>> i dont understand why people are shelling out money (yeah yeah i know its a whopping $5.00) for a program thats basically the same as the FREE version before it. from what i read on the DeadAIM site, DeadAIM 4.0’s only real differences are cosmetic. yeah yeah you can rename the screennames with aliases, but c’mon folks who here cant instantly tell me who just signed on when it shows a screenname pop up? and i guess the logging is a little more advanced, with pictures and whatnot… big whoopdeedooda. i’ll stick with 3.2.1, thank you very much

Actually, JDennis does have full rights to 3.0 and earlier versions of DeadAIM. The general assumption is that because he distributed them freely, users are free to continue distributing these older versions for free, but he still retains legal copyright to the code he wrote.
As with most freeware, it means you can use it yourself for free, but because he “owns” the code, you may not resell it or package it into your own product.
