Just the other day I dug up some of my old favorite songs… I all of a sudden am living my old perverted obsession for death metal and black metal music… Was wondering if anyone else here likes or has liked (like me) any sort of metal? Death, Black, Industrial…. ?
Take a Gander at my List:
Her Ghost in the Fog – by Cradle of Filth ( 🙂 my all time fave)
Kings of the Carnival Creation – by Dimmu Borgir
Puritania – by Dimmu Borgir
Burn in Hell – by Dimmu Borgir
Metal Heart – by Dimmu BorgirWindaphoner

Also, i like Cradle of Filth, most of their songs really do rock!!! for example, Cthulhu Dawn or Cruelty Bought Thee Orchids. All of the ‘Cruelty and the Beast’ album is pure gold!!
n e way, theres my little selection of favourite Death Metal songs.
Oh yeh, i almost forget, some Slayer songs are good too

I enjoy Type O Negative, as well as bands such as Inkubus Sukkubus, London After Midnight … there is a good new band out of the San Francisco area called Control Theory as well. I have a wide range of musical appreciation …

I’m nekkid underneath my clothes!June 30, 2002 at 7:32 pm #101726PhilMemberhahahahaha that really made me laf. some of the old stuff is a lot like that and have really light sounding guitars, wif the judas priest-like guitar solos!! but the new stuff is a lot heavier. for example April Ehtereal, that rockkkks!!!! and ‘When’.
July 2, 2002 at 10:46 pm #101712Jeff HesterKeymasterOk, curiousity got the best of me. I downloaded the following tunes and checked them out:
- Her Ghost in the Fog – Cradle of Filth
- Kings of the Carnival Creation – Dimmu Borgir
- April Ethereal – Opeth
Most of the songs start out sounding like a soundtrack for a scary Halloween movie for teenagers. Eventually the music heats up, but when the vocals kick in, I couldn’t stop laughing. Seriously. I literally was laughing out loud! Uncontrollably. My daughter was scared. My youngest son was laughing along with me. I kept imagining the band sitting around writing songs… goading Dani(?) on… “do your ‘scary’ voice, Dani!” I mean, it sounded exactly like you would expect it to sound if you asked a guy to make his voice sound like Satan. And all of them used the same, demonic-sounding vocals. But then again, it could just be me.
To sum it up… I actually loved the music (really!). Hard-driving, fantastic percussion. But I absolutely hated the vocals. What’s with that voice??? Is that like part of the forumla for death metal???
Sorry fans, but not quite my cup of tea.

Yeah Dimmu’s vocals can be odd – sometimes.. but.. english isn’t their first language and that was a bad choice of song if you wanted a taste of Dimmu in general.Danny from Cradle.. well.. I like/love his vocals….
And Opeth… dear god! Yuck!
…Demonic voices? Hrmmm… I still wonder why the named it “death metal”.
It takes a while to get used to.. a couple months perhaps.Windaphoner

July 3, 2002 at 3:38 am #101714catslastdanceMemberAnother band along these lines that I love is called Seraphim Shock …… the song “Little Gothic” is incredible.
I have a pretty large gothic music catalog here ….. although I prefer bands who use heavy electronics.

July 3, 2002 at 5:35 pm #101723PhilMemberI totally agree wif you Jeff. The singing is such a let down for bands like Opeth. Sorry for all u guys that don’t like em, but im gonna continue complimenting them!! Like cradle of filth, opeth could easily survive without a singer and would be a quality non-singer band, but as soon as the singing kicks in, it ruins it! when i first heard cradle of filth, i hated it coz of the singing, but because the guitar and drumming is sooo damn good (especially on the cruelty and the beast album), i ignore the singing and pay attention to the proper musicians!
Opeth for sure could do without the death metal singing, because in my view, that dont actually suit the whole death metal category. i just think theyre a heavy rock band. i love it when the opeth singer actually sings properly because he has such an amazing voice! so its a total waste when he starts screeching away like a little girl!
n e way, thats my essay for the day!!! im sure if u listen to the bands everyday, like i do, you’ll eventaully get used to it and wont pay as much attention to the singing!
p.s. her ghost in the fog is a terrible song to base cradle of filth around…try getting…’Cruelty Bought Thee Orchids’, ‘Desire in Violent Overture’ or ‘Cthlhu Dawn’.
Other recommended Opeth songs are, in order of preference: ‘Blackwater Park’, ‘When’ and ‘The Moor’

proper musicians!I laughed out loud when I read that…
LOL Sure it may seem nice sounding.. but they aren’t real musicians. I’ve seen them play – ‘specially all the bassist (of cradle); he can’t play bass properly! – I could pick out so many things about his bass playing that is considered improper.
They’re just people playing instruments very nicely at the best of their ability – not musicians.
