It's all part of China being the next super power.
And i find it really, really hard to belive Ford are moving out. I think Ford when I think US Industry.September 17, 2005 at 12:45 pm #129446
Some parallel between GM, Ford management and the US videogame industry in the early 80s. The market was saturated with consoles, games and the coin op arcade side. Management just thought the market was bottomless and everyday was Christmas (Atari's Ray “the czar” Kassar), but they were wrong. Today we have 3 console platforms. In 1983/84 there were six I can think of off hand. That fueled the 1984 crash. With the car world the equivalent is GM and Ford loading up the bases with big SUVs, lol!;)September 17, 2005 at 2:43 pm #129443OreoMember

I find that argument a little hard to accept…what car company has NOT come out with an SUV or two?? And now, all you see on sale and FOR sale are SUVs… Ford & GM still have smaller cars and cars that will NEVER go on “incentives” (i.e. The Ford Mustang….a FINE car I must say) And many companies are coming out with hybrid SUVs (and have had them in the works for years) so that their popularity does not wane when the fossil fuels do.
China was projected as the next business super power WAAAAAY back when I was in middle school or high school…do you think US business people did not know that if a 12 year old did? Hardly, they are going into business with them…just like the Germans and other europeans are. It is indeed going to be a SHIFT in industry…but hardly the END.September 19, 2005 at 4:58 am #129444EEDOKMember
This is what happens when the mass of people elect someone who screws the economy over. Enjoy a more balanced world.September 20, 2005 at 2:37 pm #129447
I think I'm questioning the extent Ford & GM have gone into truck/SUVs.The Japanese manufacturers made, make mostly fuel efficient front drivers and by concentrating on this type of car, which most people want, were able to redesign their main models completely every 3/4 years. Rather than be like GM with something like the F body and keep it around for 10 years before a major redesign. Capitalism indeed to offer something the peeps want.:)
Datsun saves you MPGs! :p
