Many people seem to be having problems sending files accessing the net behind a router. Receiving files is fine but sending doesn’t work. Even with all security/firewall disabled.
This is an intrinsic problem with some routers. The router’s IP address is blocked to the internet. This makes your system very secure, but file transfers are not possible. This is a known issue.
Hopefully, the full version of MSN 6 will have a workaround implemented. Apparently by changing your target location you can file transfer from behind a router on Messenger 6, but only to others with messenger 6. I will try this later.
The router’s IP address is blocked to the internet.
That is not true. If the router’s IP address would be blocked by ‘the internet’, then there would not be any traffic between your local network and the internet possible.
A router generally only directs traffic from the internet to computers in your local network and vice versa. Now if the router doesn’t know what computer in your local network a certain internet packet (data) should go to (which it generally won’t), it’ll discard the data.
