msn.exe is the delivery package for the pw-trojan which is a password stealing app, it was sent to you by one of yr msn chat buddies in an endeavour to obtain your msn hotmail password.

Hi there, I see a quesition about good old non uninstallable msn.exe. This application is not associated with the messenger. The messenger as stated about is msnmsg.exe and you may have a 5.0 or 6.0 or both files in your find files. Msn.exe is an application that takes you right to your hotmail mailbox. Msn came up with this not so bright idea, IMO, and now when it is silently downloaded to your computer it can not be deleted. It has a butterfly icon right? That’s it.
When msn decided to stop pop access to their mail, they changed their format on the homepage, so that if you visit msn hotmail, and login, bam, you’ve got msn.exe. It doesn’t even go to add/remove. You can delete the file, but it doesn’t uninstall anything. just like with all applications. In order to uninstall you have to uninstall. Thu add remove programs, or you can go to the icon, right click and go to properties and find target, this will take you to it’s folder without going thru WE(windows explorer) or the find option. If there is an uninstall icon there, that is where you uninstall.

if you have virus problems , update your virus protector dat files, and then run it. You should set it to quarantine.

If you have lost your OE, you can redowload it thru,http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.asp and then go to …………Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

It will download the selected IE tools , you may have to go to control panel , add / remove and go to the windows set up tab, internet tools, and hit details and select OE to install it completely.

As for the messengers, if you aren’t using them click on your desktop icon and right click to properties, find target and uninstall. I have all of them as you never know who you might meet that wants to chat on one or the other. I use msn messenger 6.0, yahoo messenger, icq, Aim, this also always me access to aol, and compuserve members, and to their forums, thu it’s username and password option. Even if you don’t have aol, you can have a buddy list as if you do. And many of us have friends with aol.

P.S. If anyone finds a way to uninstall, not delete, msn.exe the application let me know. PLEASE. I watched a news clip on it, that I was gonna share, but can’t find it in my favs’. I guess it wasn’t a fav. But it did explain how all this msn.exe works. If I find it will post it.
