Is there ANY way at all to delete AIM screen names? I don’t want my old ones anymore, but I don’t want to just delete them from my ;ist at the sign-pn screen. I want them gone from me, so that someone else could possibly sign up for them.
June 25, 2003 at 9:41 pm #94364BrianMemberI’m afraid there is no way you can delete your AIM screen name. What I did was to change to different password that I will not remember.
You can check out for more info: http://www.aol.com/aim/faq/screennames.html#deleteold
EDIT: I just searched and found this old thread: https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=611&SearchTerms=Delete,AIM
Found another, I don’t know if this really works but that won’t delete your screen names from the database: http://www.imhut.com/aimtutorials/deletescreenname.php

AIM website quote
Quote:quote:Q: Can I delete one of my old AIM screen names?
A: No, you cannot delete old AIM screen names at this time. However, you can prevent other users from finding one of your screen names by performing the following steps:Windows: Select the My AIM menu, click My Options, and then click Edit Preferences. After the window appears, click the Controls tab, and click Nothing about me.
Macintosh: Select the Edit menu, and click Preferences. After the window appears, click the Controls tab, and click Nothing about me.
You can also go into the Profile wizard (My AIM menu on Windows; People menu on Mac), and remove any information from your profile that would lead other users to find your screen name.
Next take all users off your buddylist
Give it a random on the fly 12 digit password of random numbers and letters. You should forget this password very quickly if you never copy it or write it down. Wait six months until the name goes back into circulation and its now deleated.

This works..but then that screename is only deleted on that computer. It can still be accessed on other computers.
July 14, 2003 at 11:01 pm #94370.ParticipantThere is no way to deleate your AIM account from the AIM network servers yourself. I have provided the best possable solution to the problem that I can think of. By giving the name an almost impossable to crack password that is very forgetable nobody else is likely to sign on it. Just let the name rot and fade away because in six months is deleated and put back into circulation.
July 15, 2003 at 7:16 pm #94369spongebobrulezajMemberthere is a way to delete sns that you dont want. it doesnt permanentally delete them, but it deletes them from your PC. when you are in the sign on window, click on the screen name you want to delete. Then, you hit the delete key on your keyboard.:)
July 17, 2003 at 3:52 am #94366Someguy03MemberVery funny……but dont worry everyone. eventually aol will start running low on sn’s and then they’ll start making it so ur sn will be deleted after “however many months”
