Diaspora has been getting a lot of press in the past year, but much of that was usurped by the launch of Google+ (which some say is modeled after Diaspora).
What is Diaspora? Here’s what they say on their blog:
Diaspora is the social network that puts you in control of your information. You decide what you’d like to share, and with whom. You retain full ownership of all your information, including friend lists, messages, photos, and profile details.
Share what you want, with who you want.
Sound familiar?
The key thing that I find attractive about Diaspora is that you can host your own Diaspora server. While it’s unlikely that your own Diaspora server will pose a threat to Facebook (or Google+), it does open up the opportunity for interest-based social networks — something that Facebook has struggled with.
So with that in mind, have you heard of Diaspora? Are you in the alpha? Does it interest you at all? Why or why not?
