i apologize for posting a detailed problem, but for me this is complex. if anyone can understand what is going on and able to solve the issue, i would be appreciative and impressed.
i recently bought a new webcam (logitech 4000) so I could chat with some friends i have in nyc. my old one was causing problems, so i figured it would be best to upgrade and start fresh. the cam looks like it could work great especially with the companion software so i can use it with aol im. however, there is a firewall issue that i can’t figure out.
i, like my friends, run off the very same brand and type of router, the linksys. i have dsl, they have cable. the webcams only seem to work in one direction. before i upgraded my cam, i could see them and they couldn’t see me. after the upgrade, i can’t see them and they can now see me.
i am an advanced computer user, but when it comes to firewalls, ports, and how to open them… i am lost. today, we finally had it working for about 5 minutes and then it cut off with every try after that resulting in a firewall error.
any clues on how to open ports, what to put in for values, and any other information would be a godsend. i run xp and have all the basic firewall protection tabs unchecked. i even tried to add specific exemptions in the set-up sections of the advanced tab. still nothing.
