Ice
MemberHi guys,
just today when I removed my av and went to add a new one I have started to get this error. Any ideas on how to get it to work?
Yahoo! Messenger (BETA) cannot convert the picture you selected to be used as your display image. Try another picture.
If this problem persists, check to make sure you have enough space on your hard drive. Now Im on win XP and I have like about 30gb free space on my hd and I even tried using the same pic as I had used before and got the same error.
Any ideas?

MemberIce, Of all the things in the beta, the avatar’s is the only thing we could not get to work. We were all able to create an avatar, and it shows up in our own box, but no was was ever able to see them. However if we added our picture, it worked fine.
When you say you removed your avatar and adding another one, are you adding another avatar? or a picture???

KeymasterThe avatars do work for me. Not only do I see mine, but I also see the avatar of the person I’m chatting with. So they CAN work, but appear to be buggy (i.e. not working for everyone).

MemberOk thnx guys, but I dunno what the heck happened but I can now select any pic I want as my display picture. Seems to have fixed itself must have been a yahoo server issue.
Thnx for the inpout though guys 🙂May 5, 2004 at 3:34 pm #69743Netti
MemberJeff, wonder if it is a serious of setting issues? I mean sometimes one box is ticked and it throws off the enitre thing. And Jeff, we’re you running tunnel with it? Let me know.. Just more curious as to why none of us in our room can get that portion to work?

I haven’t messed with the default settings, and no, I wasn’t running Y!Tunnel. I can only run Yahoo! Messenger from home (weekends and evenings) due to corporate policies, but feel free to test with me whenever you find me online.

KeymasterIce, I’m glad to hear yours fixed itself because mine is giving me the same problem and yesterday it was working fine. I can see and choose any avatar I want and even see my friends but, when I go to put a picture of my own on it I get an error ” it can’t convert it and to make sure I have enough space on my hardrive.” I have over 40 gb’s left on my hardrive and have only used a little over 11 so I know its not that.. Wonder if mine will fix itself?
Justified

MemberJeff, I too, am only on yahoo during evening and weekends. Apparently some businesses just dont approve of being paid to chat. Anyway, I had tried different settings with a friend of mine, and what ended up working was when we zoomed in the avatar. It would not show a full body avatar, but it would show a head shot avatar. Does anyone else see a full body avatar??? And thanks for your offer of assistance Jeff, I appreciate it.

MemberThe problem with the avatars is not very widespread, and it is not a system problem, it has got something to do with the yhaoo servers itself. I live in india and 40 of our class mates are using the Y! Beta and we are on almost all the time… We never had single problem with the avatars, but has some initial problems with the Audibles which corrected themselves the nest day…
A friend of mine who lives in california reported some problems with the Avatar… my guess is this might be a bit location specific
Any ideas…. ?

ParticipantWell, I’m from Canada, and I was originally able to use the Display Picture, but upon trying to troubleshoot the Radio and Audibles into working, after a reinstall I can no longer add a photo. I get the same message as Ice3:
Quote:quote:Yahoo! Messenger (BETA) cannot convert the picture you selected to be used as your display image. Try another picture.
If this problem persists, check to make sure you have enough space on your hard drive.Seems strange that it would work initially, but not after a reinstallation.

MemberI was having the same display pic problem and I found a workaround. Take the picture you want to use and crop resize it to 96 x 96 pixels. Save or Export the file as a .png format. Copy the newly created picture into your Program Files> Yahoo!> Messenger>Media >FriendIcon folder. Now, when you go to change your display image, the image should be in the list to choose from and you should be able to use it without any problems. This is what worked for me and I’m sure there are other workarounds too. So, I hope this info isn’t too old and I hope that it helps.
