Hi, another typical tale of self-inflicted stupidity. Can anyone please tell me how to retrieve some archived IM sessions that I have deleted?
They were archived and were on my hard-drive…I’m not inclined to shut down the computer unless there is no hope of recovering them! Any help much appreciated!
November 16, 2005 at 9:05 pm #133572Mac_BlueMemberIf they are saved on your hard drive then they should be there if you did a back up of your drive? If not, eeeeeek. Maybe someone else can help you more.
November 16, 2005 at 9:07 pm #133574deptayMemberah, right, so where is that then? Sorry completely useless at delving into the operating system!
Sorry I should say I did it today and I haven’t rebooted since…
November 16, 2005 at 9:15 pm #133573Mac_BlueMemberWell, you didn’t do a backup of your hard drive. If you did, you’d know about it.
I suggest rebooting and see what happens. If you saved it already and it’s in your drive, it should be there. Unless the drive crashes and doesn’t boot back up, I think you’ll be okay.
November 16, 2005 at 9:21 pm #133575deptayMemberSorry, I’m really not explaining this properly…I deleted some IM sessions from my archive today, all I am wondering is whether I can delve into some place in the operating system – like a temp directory or the recycle bin and find the files…I’m using XP pro. if that’s of any help.
Apologies for any lack of clarity in my description!

Please Note: Archives (.dat files located on your system) are encrypted and can only be viewed by the Yahoo! ID that created them. These archives are stored locally on your system, so the conversations held on that specific computer are only accessible from that computer. Once archives are deleted, they cannot be retrieved.
Too bad, it sounds they are gone with the wind.:(
