MemberIs there a way to keep a DOS window open when trying to open such a file like netstat, or ipconfig?
I need this so that I can find out al least where people are from when I get no notification when someone has added me to MSN Messenger, and they refuse to message me back when asked anything.March 20, 2003 at 2:57 am #63916Anna
ParticipantI don’t believe this is possible other than on Windoze XP whereas you can keep a command prompt open on the side as a window.
There’s no point. You can’t trace indiviual IP addresses through a netstat command with no direct one-on-one connection (which isn’t an MSN feature).March 20, 2003 at 3:52 am #63919magistyk
MemberDo you mean that when you go to Start < Run < ipconfig it opens and closes real fast?
If that is the case, simply open the Command Prompt first, and then type in ipconfig or netstat. Is this what you mean?

MemberYes thank you magistyk, that is what I wanted. (I really need to get to know DOS!!)
And as for finding out who this person is… anyway on doing it? They have no information on their profile.March 20, 2003 at 4:12 am #63918magistyk
MemberMy cousin uses this website, where you copy and paste their IP into a query string, and it gives you a bunch of information on them. I’ll try to beat the URL out of him. 🙂

MemberOhhh…. what a site!!! Now is there an easier way of finding out what their IP address is besides netstat?

MemberTo me finding out someone’s information through an IP is a chore. A lot of times the IP’s lead only to their server’s ISP, chat server, or other haven, or are spoofed entirely. There have been cases where I had tried finding information on IP’s and the information put into some tracert, either through dos or a windows based program, would turn up as “no server existing” or destination of host unreachable. Netstat might give you IP’s but the traces on them aren’t always true or are unobtainable.
When I was on a past chat program I ran into a lot of this sort of unknowns, the chat program itself is half-invisible and cannot be traced at all. Same people on this program whom were doing scans off of people, whether or not these scans were irc based scans or manually done will be a forever mystery to me, I’m glad to be away from that place. Not right what some places do to people and users have no clue what is going on. Then when you go to question it or ask around people either hush down or think your looney.
So basically I don’t bother doing netstats or traces anymore, accuracy-wise in my opinion the results are not correct or a place could be trace-proofed which there are some many places like this.

MemberQuote:quote: Ohhh…. what a site!!! Now is there an easier way of finding out what their IP address is besides netstat? That depends entirely on how they contacted you, and/or if they are still online.
