FYI trillian “pro” does have spyware in the strict sense: it logs YOU when YOU start the program.
the free version does this too by default.
Yeah dude, that’s spyware alright. So according to you, all logs are ‘spyware’?
October 16, 2004 at 2:50 am #39428RabidKittenParticipantI love trillian…other than the fact that it hates my yahoo.
It never glitches, I keep the skin small and neat, never had any spyware issues with it, as a matter of fact, I find it more secure than AIM (AIM is crap).
I turned the smilies off, and I never use moronic crap like “LOL” anyway because I hate it, and even then, my smilies are off so the words like “trillian” and “photoshop” don’t turn into pictures.
It gives you just as much accessability and options as the other programs, and takes out the stupid crap you don’t need.
I like renaming my contacts so I remember who’s who.
The logs are alright, help me remember former things if I’m in a long RP with someone and we stop for the night, or there was a link brought up that I need again.
As for the “oh no 18 things!” I rarely ever right click anyway. What do you need? Double click to IM, and all the important stuff is right there on the IM itself.AIM is crap, as too much clean up involved (if you ask me), and not nearly as nicely situated as trillian. As for the colors…eh…right…who cares? Yeah, I used to do my faded blue and grey, times new roman italic, but really…what’s it matter. Leave the AIM to the kiddies, I think.
October 16, 2004 at 3:18 am #39432QuiksilverMemberyeah trillian rocks and notice the name of the guy that talked about logs “dumptrillianpro” is this some kind of advertiser? I mean he DID post a topic saying that you should switch over to miranda or something. Well Anyway RabidKitten I must say I prefer MSN and yahoo over AIM but none of my friends actually use those *sigh* at least trillian got rid of the ads and stuff…that really helps. trillian is great skinnable etc all the good stuff…and some things are wrong with it, but comeon what program doesn’t have it’s flaws?
-quiksilver-November 17, 2004 at 12:21 am #39437stimpyMemberI’ve used both Trillian and Miranda, and I’m sticking with Trillian. You can do loads more with Miranda, but basicly, it basicly all comes down to one thing: Miranda looks like ****.
There are hundreds of plug-ins for Miranda, which is definately a befenit, but the interface is extremely unhandy no matter which plugin you install (I’ve had about 30 installed at one time). Additionally, Miranda’s core is certainly lacking any form of user friendlyness, since they couldn’t think of simple things such as window-snapping, meta-contacts, buddyicons, etc. (Buddyicons are supported, though very poorly. You have to manually download the icons from each contact, and I haven’t found out how to set your own.)
Trillian, on the other hand, is always a relief to use. The beautiful skins and easy usage makes me sit back in my chair and sigh after strugling with Miranda for a while. Of course there are those drawbacks like no voice chat, protocol problems, etc., but there is no better alternative. If you’re not satisfied with Trillian, use each official service application seperately.
November 17, 2004 at 2:54 am #39424quietbritishjimMemberHave you tried the preview of Trillian 3 stimpy? The basic version has voice chat for all four media, and the Pro version also has video chat for all four.
December 5, 2004 at 8:08 pm #39425DaJMan1800MemberI like Trillian 3 for the most part, I think it’s a great multi-im program. The interface is nice, and everything is pretty good. The one thing I just don’t like is how you get updates near daily. It gets annoying when you have a 56k and you have to download something that’s 9mb every so often. The it bugs me because the only changes I can see is that they added new definitions for the encylopedia. If I want to see the definition of a cupcake (yes there is an entry for that), i’ll look it up myself, but 9mb worth of definitions is crazy.

December 28, 2004 at 11:46 am #39439CantTouchThisMember[My two cents]
I use AIM and most of my coworkers use either yahoo or MSN, so I usually run both of them at the same time.
I Prefer AIM, most of you will disagree, but my combo of DeadAIM/Middleman works really great for me, and I love it.
