ParticipantSure, you just need a video input card or other external device that will allow your camera to play through your computer. Once you have that, just run the Audio/Video Wizard in the IM program of your choice.

ParticipantWell, any card that allows you to capture video while it is playing on your comcorder would do it. The thing with digital vidcams are that you usually just copy the vid files over from the camera in digital format. In order to use your vidcam as a webcam, you need to be able to stream the video from it in analog form. I’m not familiar enough with digital vidcams to help you any more than this, but basically if you can capture live video on your computer with your vidcam, then you can use it as a makeshift webcam as well. That’s all I know, if you can tell me more about how your vidcam transfers video to your computer, perhaps I can help more, but I can’t promise much.

MemberWell the owners manual is no help at all, and as for “how your vidcam transfers video to your computer.” I can only tell you when I up load the vids from my digital cam to my pc the software for the sony dvd handycam is doing all the work! Yep not much help to you, but I think you have me on the right track!!! I have been looking at the video input cards and I think thats the best way then just hook up my A/V connecting cable from the vidcam back to the video input card and back out to MSN as webcam? I think!
Thanks for all your help AlohaMarch 6, 2006 at 12:44 pm #139440Jeff Hester
KeymasterIs your camera a DV camera? Does it have a firewire (IEEE 1394) connector for your computer? Or a USB 2.0 connector?
I have a Sony DV camera with a firewire connector, and I was able to use the camera as a webcam, but only after installing a webcam driver. I’m not aware of any free software programs that do this, but I did find a program called Webcam DV from OrangeWare. It’s a commercial program, but they offer a free trial version so you can try it out and see if it works.
Webcam DV works great for me. The only trick was that on mine (a tape camcorder), I had to keep the camera “open” in order to prevent it from going into power save mode and shutting down.

MemberJeff,
My Sony dvd vidcam has a USB 2.0 connector, I was looking at the firewire pci card and a firewire connector, I really think the video input card is my best way!
I seen software called (dvdriver) for $20.00 not sure how good it is. I’m going to check out Webcam DV. Thanks for your help Aloha.
