Last night England had an earthquake, it measured 5.2 on the Richter scale.
Luckily no one was seriously injured, mainly due to the fact it occurred at 1am. Me I never felt a thing, neither did my husband.:p
I think I have been asked 15 times if the earth moved for me last night, the joke was wearing a bit thin by the end of today;). One guy I worked with said it was the most action his bed has had in a few months, which me me giggle!
Last time I remember one here was many years ago and I was at work, it’s the weirdest feeling and quite scary. Anyone else here get them in their part of the world?

February 27, 2008 at 6:27 pm #167600Jeff HesterKeymasterWe routinely have earthquakes here in Southern California, and 5.2 is not unusual. Usually we won’t have much damage in an earthquake that size, but that’s because the buildings are designed to withstand those kinds of forces.
Unreinforced brick buildings are the worst in an earthquake, and it appeared from the photos that a lot of the damage was from brick chimneys that fell, which makes sense.
Still, I’m glad the Townys are safe and sound!

Twas talking (IM) with an English friend last night when the house started rockin’ His comment: “Hey, that was cool”

February 28, 2008 at 1:32 am #167605PhilipModeratorOur neighbor Indonesia just recently had an earthquake of 7.5 on the Richter scale. Several parts of Penang (where I live) literally shook, sending thousands of office workers scuttling to the streets. Me? I didn’t feel a thing. The biggest fear we have over here is a tsunami being generated after an earthquake (like the one that killed over 225,000 people in December 2004).
Sarah, I’m glad you and your family are alright.
