i have been getting emails at my yahoo address that are blank with no sender address. is someone blocking their email address when sending these? if so, how can they block their email address from going out on their emails? and what would be the purpose? is there any way I can find out where these are coming from?

November 27, 2004 at 4:42 pm #106038ln5Memberthanks. now that I know someone can block their address from me I have a pretty good idea who it is. and u are right rafael he is up to no good becaus he is no good just his newest way of trying to harass me. but how do I check my computer for spyware because that is a possibility he would try that to get information so he can track me down.
November 27, 2004 at 4:46 pm #106039ln5Memberand also do you know if there is any way I can trace these and find out for sure where they are coming from?
November 27, 2004 at 5:41 pm #106043kron_19792000MemberActually if the are sending it through a open mail server(excuse me if I do not use the exact phrase) then no you can not trace from where the original mail is coming, all you will get is the ip address of the server through which the mail has been directed.
November 27, 2004 at 6:36 pm #106040ln5Memberwell that stinks I was hoping I could trace it and prove that its who I think it is sending them. but he’ll start something else maybe his next move will be something I can bust him on. thanks
November 27, 2004 at 6:38 pm #106034OreoMemberThese two spyware removal programs work well in tandem, though do NOT run them both at exactly the same time, run one and then the other. They tend to remove different spyware but they’ll mess up if you run them simultaneously. Just click on them and you’ll be on your way. Spybot mentions donations, you can if you want to be nice, but you can still download it without donating.
Spybot Search & DestroyNovember 27, 2004 at 9:35 pm #106041ln5Memberok thanks. I just finished running the spybot and ad-ware programs so hopefully those took care of anything that I don’t want on here.
December 5, 2004 at 1:10 am #106031Jeff HesterKeymasterI too recieved an email with no sender and the body was blank. When I looked at the headers The domain name it came from was hwhaywowoioyeklalllthose.com……. I block them, I mark them as spam and yet about 2 weeks goes by and I recieve another one.. Not always from the same domain, just blank sender, blank body.
I turned them into yahoo’s abuse since its in my yahoo mail that I am recieving them . There has to be something more I can do but I am not quite sure what.. If anyone has any other ideas.. I would welcome them
I have norton internet security 2004 and it is up to date . I am just scared someone might be trying to send me a keylogger or some other harmful thing.
Is it possible for them to send an invisible keylogger and for it to install even though we have a firewall? Is there anything that will scan for them and will scan for ones that might already be installed on your computer ?
Any useful suggestions welcome…
Thank you..
December 5, 2004 at 11:09 pm #106033Jeff HesterKeymasterI automatically delete any email that has no sender address. Chances are it is either spam or a virus.
December 6, 2004 at 12:26 am #106036DeadeyeMemberI’ve been having the same emails every once in a while.
They only seem to affect yahoo mail, since I never got them on hotmail.
I’ve asked the same question on these forums about those blank mails some time ago.
The reply was that they are probably spam that escaped the junk mail filter and made it to your inbox.
Its recommended to delete without opening. Most spam emails are generated and sent to random addresses, opening an email could alert the sender that your email account is active and might target you for more spam mails.
Just toss them to the trash bin and score a three-point for me. 😀December 6, 2004 at 7:56 am #106032Jeff HesterKeymasterWell I went even further, I emailed yahoo to ask them how this can happen and how I can avoid it.. this is the response I got :
The best solution to this problem is to set up a particular filter to
deliver these messages away from your Inbox. (Please know that there
are many ways to set up filters and in many cases they do not work with
this type of unsolicited message.) To create a filter for this
particular type of message:1. Click the “Mail Options” link on the top right-hand navigation
bar.
2. Click “Filters”.
3. Click the “Add” button.
4. In the “From header:” field, choose the “does not contain”
criteria in the dropdown menu and then type “@” (without the quotes)
into the text box.
5. Choose the destination folder to which you would like the message
sent. For example:Trash
or any folder you have already created
6. Click the “Add Filter” button to put your new filter into effect.
Hope this helps someone

I dont think its possible, but to make sure, disable the html graphics of the incoming e-mails, you’ll find the function somewhere in the menu.
As for the firewall, it doesnt prevent hackers from sending you keyloggers. But it prevents the hacker from getting connected to your computer and eventually to the keylogger and get the information that the trojan has collectedm making the trojan useless.
Also, thanks for the filter related tip, I’m on it.
