November 12, 2004 at 9:30 pm #104600shifterMemberTrack Listing? Booooring. 😉 I’d like to see someone post up a personal review of this album. How does it compare to his previous albums? Is it more or less controversial? Favourite tracks? Worst tracks?
November 12, 2004 at 11:06 pm #104597Someguy03MemberHah fine shifter, here you go:
I liked and hated some of it. Supposedly some of the songs were produced by eminems friend “Dr. Dre”, which I thought were so weird they were kind of scary (Rain Man, Big Weenie). I would say that its much more controversial than the first one, but targets similar topics. Some are women, America, Government, Sex, Michael Jackson, Guns, War, Love, Eminem Wannabes, His parents, etc. Some of the ones I did like were the ones featuring other artists such as 50 Cent and D12. My Favorite songs on the album were “Mocking Bird”, “Spend Some Time”, “Mosh”, and “Just Lose It.”
November 12, 2004 at 11:32 pm #104609bigcfkMemberIt’s been out for a while now. Theres a full review of it a hip hop I frequent. I’ll post a link soon. I heard a few songs, and there was just no effort on this project. Like four or five tracks its just him freestyling. Definitely his worst album. Even Infinite was better than this.
November 13, 2004 at 12:27 am #104603Hurricane22491MemberHm.. 23 tracks huh? I didn’t know there were that many on this album. I’ve listened to a few of those songs, and it seems like Eminem is losing his touch… One of my friends is picking it up today, and I’ll listen and see if I like it.
November 13, 2004 at 1:28 am #104606QuiksilverMemberTwo discs? Mmhmm sounds interesting! Well I like Eminem a lot. I’m from Michigan and have seen 8 Mile once or twice! So I better get myself out of this chair and buy that CD. Pretty much the songs you hear on the radio (Just Lose it and Mosh) are good so that’s what I’m expecting from the other songs. Sure there’ll be one or two disappointments but not the entire CD. Plus which one of Eminem’s CD’s isn’t explicit? No need to mention that they’re all explicit 😉 we already know!

That’s it. I’m going to get it right now!November 13, 2004 at 9:53 am #104598Someguy03MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by bigcfkIt’s been out for a while now. It came out yesterday the 12th. It came out earlier than the scheduled date (the 16th) because if Internet leaks. I’m going to get the CD in about half an hour then I’ll come back and tell you guys what I think (even though it might take me a while to listen to all the songs).

November 13, 2004 at 9:13 pm #104599Someguy03MemberAfter to listening to his music more clostly, its not that Eminem’s voice or the lyrics suck, its the beat and tune that sucks:
Ass like that[/b] – Eminem is just fricken weird in this… some of the lyrics:
The way you shake it, I can’t believe it
I ain’t never seen an ass like that
The way you move it, you make my pee pee go
Doing, doing, doingI don’t believe it, it’s almost too good to be true
I ain’t never seen an ass like that
The way you move it, you make my pee pee go
Doing, doing, doingPolice saying “freeze”
Doing, doing, doing
What do you mean freeze?
My computers would be seized and my keys to my ranch
I just baked cookies Mr. Officer, looky, take a whiff of these
Here, I make Jesus juice, take a sip of this
Nobody is safe from me, no not even meLike Toy Soldiers[/b] – Extremely annoying drums in the background that function as the beat for the entire song
Evil Deeds[/b] – This is how the lyrics went: “Moma’ had a baby and its head popped off…head popped off…head popped off…..head popped off.” and it continues echoing and does that throughout the entire song.
Em Calls Paul [Skit][/b] – Heres part of the lyrics in this skit (his voice is masked as a robot). It’s more scary than funny since hes so random:
Do you remember the time we were watching the Billy Jean video?
Well he’ll always be that Michael to me
And it doesn’t matter if he’s black or white
Because I can’t stop loving him and I hate plastic surgeons
And I hope they all ****ing die!
How do you like that?
And I like him, I like him a lot
I want to touch him but I can’t
Excuse me, I’m taking a ****
Sorry
Anyways, call me back
I have this idea about how I want to end the show
So, hit me when you get this message ****er
Oh, and by the way
No I don’t have a new gun *you hear gun click on recording* goddamn it
Some of the lyrics are hilarious, but the songs are complete $%!@November 13, 2004 at 9:50 pm #104605f0rbezMemberMy Review 😉 Hope you like…
This album isn’t worth the drive to the store.
I don’t know whats worse: Eminem’s whiney childlike voice and repetitive lyrics (also childlike), or his production of the album. Does he honestly think hes a good producer? His beats are horrible. “My 1st Single” is probably the single most annoying beat I’ve ever heard. And thats only the beat, I’m not even taking into consideration how annoying his lyrics on that track are. Mainly because I couldn’t make it through the first 20 seconds without shutting it off. But now that I’m relistening to the entire track, I have to say that the lyrics do fit the beat nicely. They both demonstrate the epitome of bad music.
Its a shame that most of the good tracks didn’t make the final album, although CD2 does have a few of the better ones. Its not a good sign when the 3 track bonus CD contains more talent then the entire main album.
Eminem needs to go back to the style of Slim Shady LP, where his raps were either goofy and comical, or extremely angry and violent. Theres a fine line between goofy and comical, and whiney and annoying. He’s definately crossed this line with the past few albums. His style is now almost monotone and repetitive.
Whats strange is Eminem’s passion for making fun of popstars, boy bands, ect. when Em himself is the definition of popstar. Whos single is always number one on TRL? And thats not by accident. The singles he chooses are exclusively made to sound poppy and get the attention of teeny boppers and others that he knows will make up the bulk of the album purchases.
I do have to say that Eminem did produce one good beat on the album. That was “Mockingbird”. But overall, he just needs to leave the producing the the producers. And maybe the rapping too…
Conclusion: If your older than 15 and have stopped watching shows such as Southpark or TRL, DONT buy this album.
November 13, 2004 at 11:01 pm #104608QuiksilverMemberHere I am. Just got back from a three hour shopping trip. My review:
Eminem has definitely changed, become a bit more comical here and there. Back in the day of Slim Shady LP he had those angry songs. Now he’s got nothing to base his songs on. There’s a Hailie here and there. The whole Soldier thing is included to. The beats aren’t too good. There does seem to be some of his heart in the songs, but the reason for the songs isn’t clear to me yet. He’s still doing the whole making fun of other celebrities thing. I wasn’t expecting something like this. The repitive stuff is annoying! Listening to more of the songs I found myself nodding to the odd beats. I like this album. He bases some of the songs on his past, as he did in other albums. That’s the best songs that he makes…the one based on his past and full of anger. Okay huge change of opinion here…sweetness. Sweetness. Nice to see a different side to Eminem. Skits are a bit funnier now and Eminem has lightened up with his songs. Most of his anger is gone giving him new things to focus on, and it’s working for me. Funny stuff, good stuff. Definitely still my favorite rapper.
Get the album. Now.
Seems Eminem is becoming more and more involved with politics. Especially with Mosh. So what do you all think? Eminem for president in ’08?
Favorite songs: Mosh, Just Lose It, Mockingbird, Spend Some Time
-enjoying it quik
Michael Jackson is extremely upset about the Just Lose It music video 😉November 13, 2004 at 11:46 pm #104610bigcfkMemberThe album that leaked on that website was the actual album. EVeryone on there was surprised as hell it wasn’t a joke. Despite what you think, That’s a review for the actual Encore.
November 14, 2004 at 12:23 am #104602RabidKittenParticipantI’ll probably add to this later as I hear more and more, but from what I’ve heard for now I’d have to disagree with most of the negative that’s been said. You’re watching the artist grow and change, manifest into something new and better every album. If you’ve noticed, every album has a different feel to it, and for those of us tired of the angry I’m going to shoot everyone up feel, this is a great, refreshing breath of air! Eminem actually shows here that there’s more to him than this tough guy act full of annoyance and angry words and accusations, but there’s actual substance there as well. The bits of humor still scattered throughout show that he hasn’t lost his ironic sort of spin on certain situations and his peculair point of view, but those more song-songs on the album show off the voice that we’ve all seen glimpses of in the past, showing us all that he’s not just a rapper, but an artist.
After all the contravercy is over and his “I’m going to spit in your face” albums and hostility is out of the way, he can now focus on the actual album instead of just replying and defending himself in the only way he’s known how to. This is the actual eminem in my opinion. Glimpses of him as the father, as the mischief maker, as the cynic and also bits of humor and strong opinions also scattered through it without losing his basis of “I’m not afraid to say what I think and how I feel about certain things, if you don’t like it, piss off”.
Strong rhythms, good compilations with other rappers and the like as well as a good variety of sounds and melodies. Repitition or not, it’s an album worth getting in my opinion.November 16, 2004 at 5:22 am #104601shifterMemberI’ve got to agree with RK. This album definately shows Marshall’s growth as an artist. Sure a couple of songs are “stupid/silly”, but guess what? They’re meant to be. It’s certainly not the focus of the album. The beats are definately not your standard rap beats, but instead a fresh collection of interesting, almost experimental beats that set Em and Dre apart from the rest of the same ol’ hip-hop. I enjoyed the diversity of this album, and Slim Shady’s albums are one of the few hip-hop discs I can listen to from front to back without becoming insanely bored with the same repeating beats and monotone rhymes.
And to contrast Someguy’s zany lyric quotes, here’s a verse from the politically charged release “Mosh”
Quote:quote:Imagine it poorin, its rainin down on us, mosh pits outside the oval office
Someone’s tryin to tell us something, maybe this is god, just sayin we responsible
For this monster, this coward, that we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin, how can we allow something like this, without pumpin our fists
Now, this is our, final hour
Let me, be the voice, in your strength and your choice, let me simplify the rhyme, just to implify the noise
Tryin to amplify to times it, and multiply it by six-teen million people are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech, let the president answer our high anarchy
Strap him with a AK-47, let him go fight his own war, let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil, no more psychological warfare to trick us to thinking that we ain’t loyal
If we don’t serve our own country, we’re patronizing our hero
Look in his eyes, its all lies, the stars and stripes, have been swiped, washed out and wiped,
And replaced with his own face, mosh now or die, if I get sniped tonight, you’ll know why, cuz I told you to fightLooks like Em has something to say after all. 😉
