MemberIs It possible to answer a IM and get a virus that can destroy your entire sytem? MY 16 year old son said he answered a Im and the other person typed your system is fried! (and it was ).But of course i wasn’t standing over him to see it for myself…Is this possible? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

KeymasterWow, that’s awful. I don’t know how anyone could fry your PC with a simple IM, BUT… they could send you a virus, either by transferring a file to you (which you have to accept first), or by enticing you to click a hyperlink (which would take you to a website that runs a malicious script). In either case, you should get a warning.
Do you have any details on what happened (a file sent or link clicked, etc.)?

MemberJeff since Yahoo chats and IMs are in “code” form the Im can be coded just as a website can be coded to mess up your PC. They call them IM Bombs or Chat Bombs. This is why Yahoo has had the need for YTunnel etc. Remember Jeff I just got 2 of my 3 PCs back up and running from being screwed up from these Yahoo Hacker Jerks! Yes I know some people in person who use those programs and play in the *Booter Rooms* and they are who I ran to when something would happen before I got Ytunnel. Actually one of them was how I found out about YTunnel, They said get it and “We” cant touch you. Anyway yes they “script” thier IMs to do damage!

KeymasterOut of curiosity, what does “fried” mean in this case?

Memberwe had to format the drive and reinstall windows.I wanted to kill that kid..lol..and on top of it all, which in a way I understand He was real interested in hacking *not doing just how it is done* ( the way someone just by a touch of a keyboard could do so much damage,) But I have became a security freak, If there is security to get I got it on here, although I have to admit it gets a little lonely in chat when your afraid to talk to people , thinking they are going do some sorta meaness.well I’m rattling on I hope I answered your question.:o

Memberi dont know i m getting it write it or not..
if u r using win98.then its is vulnerable to ping of death, icmp and many more dos attacks(also win95 dont know about win me but win xp is quite safe)that can freez ur system.these attacks r done by getting ur ip address.
its better u update ur operating system from miscrosoft site to avoided this nasty dosattacks.
but remember sending pm is not the cause of freezing or fried system. -
