ParticipantOver the past several days, I have noticed an extreme slow page load time, even on my school’s broadband connection. It takes up to a minute to load some pages, and at other times less than 30 seconds (on broadband). I am use to this on my dial up, but slow pages loads on dial up is really hell.
Can anyone else verify this problem? (as I type and still notice images loading.. )

KeymasterThat’s crazy! I haven’t seen that myself, but I’m glad you said something. If other people are having a problem I need to know about it.
The only thing that might effect page load time (assuming our server is running well and the network is fine), would be the Google ads that appear in the right column. Sometimes I’ve seen those slow down the load time. Does that seem be be the “last thing” that’s loading for you?

KeymasterI haven’t experienced this in recent days. The server appears to be serving image files as fast as any other server I connect too on the internet. If circumstances change, i’ll let you know asap.

ParticipantIt’s slow at school, ~15-30 seconds per page load, but at home it’s usually ~0-5 seconds.

MemberIt was extremely slow earlier at home. Fortunately, any problems seemed to have sorted themselves out, its back to quick again now.

It is not relevant to the problem discussed in this thread.January 14, 2005 at 11:26 pm #111863Someguy03
MemberOn my school’s broadband connection either pages load very slow or the top half of the page with the BBB navigation loads and nothing else does unless I refresh the page a few times (this happens on any of the computers I use in my school at the lab). At my house, it runs fine.

MemberIt gets slow for me occasionally, but more often than not, it’s loads within 10 seconds on broadband.

MemberOk, well, next time you are at a place where you experience slow load times, I’d like you to do a traceroute. You can do this by going to ‘Start’, ‘Run’ and then typing ‘cmd’. When the command prompt opens, type ‘tracert -d http://www.bigblueball.com’.
You will see something like this:C:>tracert -d http://www.bigblueball.com
Tracing route to http://www.bigblueball.com [70.84.84.106]
over a maximum of 30 hops:1 <10 ms <10 ms
Please copy the results of the traceroute to the clipboard after it has finished (right-click the window, pick ‘Mark’, select the text with the left mouse botton and click the right mouse button again when the selection is made). Next, send me a private message and paste the results of the traceroute in there.
C:>tracert -d http://www.bigblueball.com

MemberI use broadband, yet i was getting slow pageloads
it happens on alot of vbuliten forums. i don’t know what it is tho.
it can’t be flooding the server, can it?January 17, 2005 at 4:09 pm #111859DJHyperbyte
MemberLLXerxes wrote:I use broadband, yet i was getting slow pageloadsThis is not an issue related to bandwith on any way. It has to do with TCP/IP packet routing.
LLXerxes wrote:it happens on alot of vbuliten forumsThis is not true. vBulletin does not have such problems.
LLXerxes wrote:it can’t be flooding the server, can it?If it was I would’ve found out and done something about it.Why don’t you PM me a traceroute (as described above) next time this happens?

The only issue with forums is, some try to preload everything, while others (the better ones) only load the threads you are currently viewing. I don’t know which bracket vBulletin comes under with regards of this, as i’ve not yet researched the way v Bulletin handles this kind of thing. I know forums like Ikonboard preload all threads, than load only the threads requested.
In any case, i’ve not experienced any loading problems, since BBB staff moved to vBulletin, although I did experience problems on the old server, Microsoft IIS and ShNits 2000 forum.
Just some food for thought, all in all tho, from what everyone has been saying, this is just a local network problem with some carriers or ISP’s based in America, rather than any issue caused by the BBB server, forum, or misconfiguration of any kind by the BBB admin.
