My DSL upload cap is 512Kbps. This is equal to .064MBps. However, I just uploaded a large .avi file in AIM to my sister at 1MBps (15 times faster than our internet allows). My sister and I are on the same wireless network, but I don’t think that should matter; the file still goes through AIM’s server. Even if we are directly connected, the file shouldn’t be able to be uploaded faster than our internet allows.
I am using Vista Home Premium SP1, she is using XP Professional SP3.
We are both using AIM 6.8.x.x
Does anyone have any ideas as to why the files are transferred so quickly between she and I? It doesn’t go this fast with anyone else.
Thanks
Because you’re both on the same network. AIM is SUPPOSED to create a “direct connection” between both users, which cuts out any other servers. This means you’re using the LAN network, and your speed limit is that of your wireless (probably a G network, which is 58mbps).
File and picture transfers do not go through the servers, I assure you of that.
