we’ve created a facebook page for for a certain US city. We have now over 5,000 members, and some people are advertising real estate etc on it. Are they allowed? Also, someone has offered to buy the admin rights? Can they? Why would they want to? Anyone have insights?
People can “advertise” anything they want on Facebook as long as it’s legal. This is why so many companies are jumping on the bandwagon. It’s a form of marketing that is “free” (no cost, other than the time for them to maintain and reply).
As for selling the admin rights, that’s questionable and most likely not allowed by the Facebook TOS agreement, although I have to admit I haven’t read it myself. Having said that, you could probably do it and nobody would know or even blink.
Why would they want admin rights? For control, most likely. As an admin, they could take the page in a direction that served their purposes. For example, if it was a real estate agent who wanted to buy the rights, he/she could post all their own notices and effectively lock out their competitors.
That’s right, it’s all about the $$$$!
