Facial Animation Enhances Existing Instant Messaging Experience For MSN Messenger Users
–(INTERNET WIRE)–Oct 01, 2001– famous3D the leading provider of software and communication tools to humanize the Internet, today launched IMpersona, a revolutionary and free enhancement for the 32 million users of MSN Messenger. IMpersona allows MSN Messenger users to see facial movement and hear speech when their buddies interact with them via text.
Derived from their world leading 3D facial animation technology, which famous3D has developed over the past four years, IMpersona allows users to humanize text-based Instant Messaging (IM) making the communication more engaging and powerful. The advanced technology offers real-time, fully interactive, facial animation communication easily across the Internet. The technology opens many doors for exciting applications in the enterprise and consumer markets.
According to analyst firm Jupiter Media Metrix, Instant Messaging is the fastest growing segment of the Internet. By 2003, 90 per cent of the on-line population will use IM.
“Organizations who wish to leverage the power of IM, could use IMpersona to communicate more effectively within the organization,” said Zac Jacobs, Sales and Marketing Director of famous3D.
The incredibly lifelike product transforms ordinary text into mouth movements and speech, emulating human gestures such as smiling, which can be triggered by emoticons within the program. The user selects a photo-realistic or fantasy ŒpersonaŒ from the extensive library supplied and their buddies will see them talking as this persona. Alternatively, a user may select a head they wish to see their buddies talking as.
Users of IMpersona may still chat with MSN Messenger buddies who do not have IMpersona installed but the addictive software is forecast to spread like wildfire through MSN Messenger buddy lists. The IMpersona experience will be promoted in strong marketing campaigns from Microsoft, CNET, Tucows and other large portals in which potential users will be enticed to humanize their current messaging experience.
IMpersona currently works seamlessly over the MSN Messenger network but there are plans to offer the product for other popular messaging platforms such as AOLŒs Instant Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger.
Though most IM services currently offer a video streaming option as an alternative to text based chat, they have so far failed to catch on because of the jerkiness and other user experience issues associated with video streaming, according to Mr Jacobs.
“IMpersona is based on famous3D technology which has been designed to stream over low bandwidth connections and is at least twenty times more bandwidth efficient than video,” he said.
Organizations in the e-commerce, e-learning, entertainment, call center and CRM sectors particularly will benefit from the new IMpersona offering. Currently, Famous 3D is discussing the adoption and implementation of IMpersona as part of the communications portfolio of a number of e-learning services organizations.
“Not only is IMpersona a powerful tool for establishing long-term customer relationships, this advanced technology will help service providers attract new customers, as well as improve relationships with current users,” Jacobs said. “It will allow an organization to communicate more powerfully and effectively internally, and with the outside world.
“It has been proven that people relate better and tend to retain more information if content is communicated in an engaging and personal manner rather than by text. This next generation IM communication technology ensures the increased take-up of Instant Messaging for a variety of users.”
famous3DŒs proven ability to provide game developers; authoring and publishing professionals; film animators, etc. with the right tools and solutions has seen the company clearly establish itself as the leader in the 3D facial animation marketplace. The company has now utilised this expertise to improve the power and effectiveness of communication via the Internet. The famous3D brand offers products like the recently released Producer range, which has enabled web content, such as high quality photo-realistic characters, to be created without requiring in-depth animation or technical skills.
In addition, famous3D has also been working with companies like Intel, helping it optimize its technology to advance the way Internet users interact with digital content.
“IMpersona is a valuable addition to famous3DŒs product offering,” said Jacobs. “For those who want to humanize their text messages, they should go to http://www.IMpersona.com and simply download the free software.
