I have a CD drive on my computer capable of burning CDs (What’s new?) and it seems that about 1 of every 3-4 CDs I burn, some songs get tweaked a little bit. Or a big bit. At the end of the “bad CDs” some songs start skipping uncontrollably  . This has happened ever since I got my computer which was a year ago from CyberPower. The affected songs are at the end of the CD and it only seems to happen on the longer ones (13+ songs). Is there something wrong with my CD drive? Thanks.
If it’s consistent and happens at around the same time, then most likely it is your CD drive (It’s proably out of balance, the laser is closer towards the edge of the CD and corrupts the songs).
Also, have you tried different types of CD-R’s and made sure that they were completely clean before burning them? If so, then I’d say buy a new one. You can get a new Sony DVD±R/RW drive for under $50 if you look.
Do you think I could get it fixed or a new one with the warranty that came with the computer? I still have a little time left.
Likely, otherwise you can get a new one for $20-30 from http://www.newegg.com. But give your computer MFG a call first.
I feel really stupid asking this so don’t make fun of me, but how do I know if the CD drive can burn cds when looking at products?
I suggest you bite the bullet and upgrade to a DVD burner, but if it has to be CDs only, they’re still available as well.
I’m going to try burning CDs with a different program and see if it helps any first.
