KeymasterI’ve done a little experimenting with the BigBlueBall webcam, creating a pop-up version. It still refreshes once every 60 seconds (when the cam is on, of course).
I added a Yahoo messenger online status indicator, but thought I’d ask what ideas you have for something like this. Basically, something that would let you chat with me when I’m available. Any ideas??
I’m also thinking of creating an “offline” image. I can test to see when the “live” image was last updated, and if it’s been more than a few minutes, display the “offline” image. That way you’ll know at a glance whether you’re seeing live images or something from hours ago. What do you think?
Once I’ve got it cleaned up nicely and settle on the features, I’ll post a step-by-step article on how I created it, and how you can, too.

MemberLooks great Jeff, now I can bring up your cam, make sure your hard at work (lol yeah, really thats the ONLY reason I would view your web cam, really!!!!) 😉 And still surf the rest of the net at the same time.
You know I keep thinking of bringing one of these online at home, but I’m a closet nudist around my house, lol, images might not be appropriate 🙂
Take care,
Stephanie

MemberI like the idea of an “offline” image. Nothing more annoying than waiting for a cam to update, then realizing that it’s not even on!

ParticipantWhy can’t it be streaming? (just wondering) I assume there’s a good reason not to, considering the fact that you’re not doing it. I think it would be WAY cooler, and funnier.

KeymasterAhem, way more embarrassing more likely. I might give it a try though.

MemberWhat a waking up of a topic 2 years after it’s last post.
The streaming is a cool idea though. or updating after say, 20seconds, rather than a minute.

KeymasterIt actually updates every 30 seconds right now.

ParticipantHow about every 5 seconds? surely there’s nothing wrong with that….

Except the amount of stress it puts on the webserver, and the insane bandwidth usage.
