MemberHi all,
I’ve recently switched to Firefox (1.5.0.4) which generally works fine for me.
But THIS webpage display screws up, especially at the start of section “3.” (see screenshot)This page displays fine in my I.E., and even in a friend’s Firefox – so I wonder what have *I* got wrong here ?
Any clues or suggestions, anyone ?June 17, 2006 at 10:41 pm #146491Tigerblade

ParticipantMy 1.5.0.4 shows it as well, but I use Opera of my default, just opened FF to check. I am going to assume here that since 3 people are having the problem, same version of FF, that it’s nothing wrong on our parts, but the way FF renders that page.

MemberEagle_Kiwi, I’ve worked a lot with web designing and have found that IE is very forgiving of HTML code errors whereas FireFox displays what the code says precisely as its written. Bottom line is…a well written page will display properly in FireFox and IE, Opera, Netscape, etc, and a poorly written one will often times appear to look right only in IE. Exceptions are there when some features like certain fade-out effects, or some proprietary document objects that are not part of the W3C standard and not supported by Mozilla (FireFox) but are supported by IE…so they will only be displayed in IE. FireFox only supports features that are W3C standards. The page in question doesn’t specify a doc type which is one of the first things a browser will look for to figure out how to display the page for you. So I think what you get is one browser (IE) showing you its best guess at how the page should look, and FireFox showing you its best guess. In this case, both browsers have to guess what the DocType is and IE did a better job at guessing. I’m sure FireFox has some bugs in it but one easy way to check is to take the url of the page that’s not displaying properly for you and check to see if its valid html code. You can do that by going to a site that quickly validates html code for you online like W3C.org and see if the page validates, if it does…AND Firefox isn’t displaying it properly, then you’ll know its a problem with your FireFox. Don’t give up on FireFox..it has a lot going for it.
