i was just thinking something…how many of you REALLY know how to stay safe when handling fireworks and sparklers?
ok lets go with the obvious…stand away from the rockets when you’ve set off the fireworks, wear gloves and wear eye protection. but you can still have a bad time afterwards.
sparklers…many of us like showing off our little tricks with them. we always keep them at arms length and wear gloves, and dispose of them in a bucket of water. but some of us can get out of hand with them, and it results in bad consquences. just what im trying to say is – remember to keep yourself safe at all times.
same with fireworks…don’t get out of hand with them. only buy fireworks marked BS 7114, and don’t drink alcohol before you set them off.
stay safe guys…in 2005 there were over 400 injuries in one month! a lot of people! keep yourself safe…so can anyone else find any interesting facts for me?

October 19, 2007 at 8:40 pm #164861Jeff HesterKeymasterThat is TRULY the most off-topic of all off-topic posts I’ve seen in a long while. Good information, but wow, did that come out of left field!

A quick google of the subject garnered:
these safety observations;
this “official” stand on the subject;
and even this very report-ish volume of information on all sorts of things about fireworks.If it piques someone’s interest or helps protect someone from injury . . . it’s a good thing!
But I’m still gonna run around the house (outside) with sparklers on New Year’s Eve . . . with no gloves on!
October 20, 2007 at 12:59 am #164870PhilipModeratorGood info, bcfc. I’ve never seen anyone else giving sage advice in a first post! During the recent Malaysian Hari Raya (read the Celebrating bit) festival, a lot of kids injured themselves with sparklers and crackers…argh!
Have some rep on me.

Seriously, I don’t think kids should get hurt, but the stuff isn’t that dangerous, should I wear gloves and eye protection when I cook on the stove, or use the grill? (lol the little grill we have at school actually is pretty dangerous, but I think I’ll risk it anyway)

November 7, 2007 at 10:23 pm #164871AcidicParticipantWell I live in Liverpool and ‘Bonfire night’ is a big occasion, just after ‘Mischeif night’ and fireworks even for the occasion are a big risk here.
Teens are out of control here and throw fireworks at each other for fun, which is not cool or funny. Belive me, I’ve saw some sick injurys and thats what can happen.
After school today, 3:06pm a small year 7 11-12 lighted a firework, not a rocket but one of your amazing, nice colourfull sparkle ones. He luanced it in a crowd of people today and someone was nearly injurded.
People need to take procaustions with fireworks, the way people use them is disgustingNovember 8, 2007 at 8:41 pm #164865DavidParticipantPerhaps parents should just teach their kids to be less reckless in general, you know, attack the real problem, instead of a subset of consequences caused by it?
Who doesn’t shoot rockets at each other anyway? It’s all in good fun. =P
Like I said, Darwin at work…
