This is MSNs stand on error 81000301
MSNTS: Error 81000301: You cannot sign in to MSN Messenger Microsoft KB(328160)

When you try to sign in to MSN Messenger, you may receive the following error message:
You could not sign in because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
MSN subscription customers only: The Details section of the MSN Status and Support page may display the following error message:
81000301: Unable to sign in.check status and support in support.msn.com for connectivity issues in your area
CAUSE
The MSN Messenger servers are temporarily not available.The MSN Messenger proxy settings are not correct.
The MSN Messenger service is blocked by a firewall.
You are not connected to the Internet.
You cannot visit a Web page that is using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Your computer network does not allow access to the MSN Messenger service due to administrative rights.
Your Internet connection may be down or very slow.
I hope this will help with messenger problems since I seem to be seeing alot of these
Well I was hoping it would be because the MSN messenger servers are temporarily unavailable but other friends of mine (in other states) have been able to sign in just fine. I just recently got this problem today in the morning. I’ve tried everything and yes I went through all the topics regarding errors and the sticky board regarding this. It has been impossible. I suppose reformatting might make it work but oh man what a hassle that would be just to get MSN messenger working. I’ll try to connect later on. If it doesn’t work, goodbye MSN messenger for me until next time that I HAVE to reformat. *Sigh*
If it’s just out of the blue, have you tried connection troubleshooter? This solution seemed to have worked for me.
I tried the connection troubleshooter and it before it began it told me that the troubleshooter failed to start. Something like that. This really sucks considering MSN is where I talk to almost eeeeeeverybody I know. I don’t know what else to do. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, registry fixes, changed user accounts to check if it was just mine and same problem on those too. 🙁
