MemberI was woundering, for those you are on dial up, what is your average downloading speed?
I just wanted to average it to mine, because Im thinking its slow. Im going to do a bandwidth test when I get home, and I will get the number, although its not that accurate, but hell, none of them are.
If you dont know, I would really appreicate it if you would take the test. It doesnt take very long, and its free. Ive found that This site is pretty good.
ThanksMarch 6, 2003 at 11:22 pm #64155Spider_man
MemberI got about a 43.2 kilobits per second speed (4.3 KB/Sec) on that site, but I can usually squeeze 5.3KB/Sec out of my modem for downloading files. On Kazaa its usually slower than a download say off of an FTP site.

Member49.2 kbps (from a small fishing village of less than 3000 ppl) obvioulsy the differences are in the ISP that you chose not your location.

WOW!!! Thats slow!! And actually that went alot quicker than usual!! Maybe cause its a Sunday?? That makes me think. If Bell Sympatico is this slow, why do so many people stick with them?? Personally they are a crapy ISP. Their prices arr not that special. Their speeds are slow. They dont support anything! And they steal your money!! On a news cast a few days ago it said that some lady had bell high speed, (dsl) and she had her mom pay for it through her credit card because she was in college. When she was done school, she phoned and cancelled the net when she left school, bell decided to keep charging her. 4 or 5 years this so after. They didnt even know until they got a letter in the mail from them saying you owe us $400 something dollars cause her credit card maxed out. They phoned them, and they said, oh sorry, our system doesnt go back that far. They were so mad, that they called the news netowork, and they helped her get back almost 900 bucks!!
some what same thing happened to my aunt, she cancelled her net cause her modem fried, and 2 years later she got a bill in the mail for 400 bucks.I wouldnt go with them if you live in canada. and if you do SWITCH!!
I might go with primus… or aol.. not sure yet, but i have to stick with the bums for now! grr!March 10, 2003 at 12:48 am #64152magistyk
MemberA lot of ISPs charge for canceling your internet connection with them if you read the contract that you sign or something. If this went on for more than a few months, then those people shouldn’t even own a credit card because they don’t know how to check their Statements each month. How stupid, that story doesn’t make me think anything bad about Bell, but rather how stupid people are. There is a reason for the statements.

MemberYes that is true. BUT there is NO disconnection fee. This problem was not done by an accident, and only did happen because they did not check their statement. I dont trust dishonest companys. Bell has done this on many occasions, and need to be stopped. That is why this problem was gone public, only because Bell refused to pay back the $900.00 they owed the people. The only ‘good thing’ I respect from them is the 24 hour service they have. Of course it is very limited because they claim never to ‘support anything’.
