Well, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but then again… this is the off topic section of this forum, is it not? 🙂
What I would like to do is to set up a forum with the same “infrastructure” as this one. Don’t misunderstand me if this is awkwardly expressed. I am not saying I’d likd to copy BigBlueBall.com in any way. What I want to say is that I am looking for a place that can host such a forum. I am no geek, no specialist, no web admin, no programmer, – just a common web user who’d like to open up a public discussion on a topic that might be of interest.
I know that there are places that offer “free forums”, but I don’t like these. Mostly I don’t even like the looks of the sites. This forum here which is powered by snitz.com looks very pleasing. And I’d like to have control over the forum, and over what kinds of ads are placed on it (preferrably none at all!).
I have no idea how to set up such a forum. I have no idea about “SQL”… What I would like to ask is simply: if I buy some web space, is there a way to easily set up such a forum without becoming an “expert in database programming”? 😮
Kind regards,
Hugo

You don’t need a lot of experience with programming and databases to be able to run a forum like this. First of all, all you have to do is find a server that can support the forum, let’s say you are going to use Snitz Forums. Then all you really have to do is find a host (free or paid) that can support ASP and MS Access OR SQL. There are quite a few hosts that can do this, this link is provided at the Snitz site: http://hifi-konsulenten.dk/asp/
Then all you have to do is register an account, download Snitz. Now all you have to do is upload Snitz and it’s database, setup the database path, and run the setup file, and you’re done. I did it before without even knowing any real ASP or databases.
Was that what you were looking for? If not, let me know.

Thank you very much! I followed your guidelines, and I succeeded in uploading the files to a free host – and creating the snitz forum! Super! 😀
One more question: I do own my own domain (world-in-union.net). How do I have to proceed if I’d like people to be able to reach the forum using http://www.world-in-union.net/forum/default.asp instead of http://www.somehostwithalongname.com/directory/subdirectory/forum/default.asp?
Maybe I should add that the domain is registered with mydomain.com.

It’s just the domain, I don’t hava a server. I think I can find the way to point the domain to the host. You’ve been most most helpful in this matter; thanks again.
