Hey just wondering…I’ve been in the chat a few times recently, and it seems NOBODY is ever in there! I’ve said hi and waited around for at least 6 or 7 minutes with no reply.
I guess the chat isn’t the thing to do anymore? LoL.
there’s usually a few people in there, just depends on what time you try. i’ve been pretty busy lately so i don’t have time to chat much; on weekends or after work i’ll try to stop in for at least a little while.
plus, we’re working on getting some new features in irc to hopefully make IRC a more fun experience for members. hopefully that’ll help some.
I go in there at times and start talking, mostly to myself. Doesn’t bother me though. I think the IRC chat was made just as an added bonus to the site, or perhaps not but either way it’s nice to know it is there. I suppose most people that want to talk to each other already do it through the instant messaging programs rather than IRC. If anybody likes to talk about nonsense, then I’m available. hah.
I’m in the #bigblueball IRC channel pretty much whenever I’m signed in at home (evenings, sometimes on the weekend, and occassionally during the weekdays). I’m usually doing several things at once, so I might not notice right away if someone pops in there.
Don’t despair! Try again. I usually find it’s most active in the evenings for North America.
Also, you probably would want to use the pop-up window version, so you can continue to surf BigBlueBall while the chat is open.
Oh, and when you join, SAY SOMETHING! Don’t just join, then leave. :p

i’ll admit, occasionally i’ll join, notice there’s nothing going on (although usually there’s no one in there to begin with), and eventually leave. i usually at least try a “hey there” or something to that effect to test the waters though.

For those of you that like IRC, come and idle. We’re busy working on some cool new things for the chat but I suggest you come join us now. It may be dead, but that’s because people don’t have confidence in the chat. If you all stop being so scared of the silence, maybe we’ll actually have a nice full chat. Dave and I are always there when we can be, idle, lurking or chatting.
I hope with the new version of the chat we’re working on that people will join us and have some fun :)!
