Forwarding port info

I recently brought a belkin wireless router for my laptop, but i can’t sign into msn. At first it was coming up with the 81000306 error (cant reach server) now its saying something different i think.

I emailed belkin and they said to open up some of the ports in the firewall, so i opened up port 1863 with both TCP and UCP, still not made any difference.

I also tried to delete the server key but its not there, i was using msn 7 beta now ive swapped back to 6.2 but no difference.

Has anyone got any ideas about any other ports to open up or any other ideas?

Ok thanks for the links.

This is what ive got in my msn options, connections box:

I use a proxy server box is ticked.

Server: 192.168.2.1 (my routers IP)

Port: 1863

User id : (my AOL sign in name, which i dont think is ment to go here)

password: (my aol password, probs not ment to go here either)

realm : home (probably not right either)

If anyone has any ideas about this i wouldn’t mind knowing them 😀

I got a stupid question why are you using a proxy server? You shouldnt have to. All you should have to do is open them ports on the router and not even mess with the proxy settings on messenger.

OK it wouldn’t sign in so i thought id mess about with the settings, ill untick the box but it still doesn’t sign in

Download active ports http://www.protect-me.com/freeware.html and see what ports msn messenger is trying to use. Instead of using port triggering try port forwarding and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the link to that program, there are a load of ports that msn uses but i open them and its just telling me to open more and more, if im not careful in a minute im gonna have every possible port open lol.

What model router is it? If you did the port fowarding go check the ports at https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 If the router isnt opening up the ports then there is nothing you can do see if there is a firmware update.

OK just for you lol

The MTU was on 1414 standard, the woman told me to change it to 1400, no idea why or how it worked but it did lol
