KeymasterI find it terribly addicting, with it’s damned badges. But I don’t know many people on it.
Has anyone else checked out Foursquare?

ParticipantYes. Regardless of the latest article David sent out about the dangers of location based programs, I like foursquare.
My only problem is that being lame, I use the mobile version. Not just the mobile version, but the sms text based mobile version. Which makes finding locations and adding them impossible, not to mention changing your location. Which can be a pain when you’re trying to check into an unfamiliar location. Like when I was at Disneyland this weekend. My location is set to Vegas, so when I tap in @ Disneyland it pops up with a non-familiar location. Not very likely that NOBODY has put in Disneyland. And in fact, when coming home and changing my location to Anaheim and searching Disney, people have even added certain /rides/ inside the park.
So yes, that’s my biggest complaint. I’m lame and have to use SMS, and foursquare has crappy SMS help and functionality as a whole.

KeymasterThat’s too bad about the SMS (in)ability. Foursquare can be a lot of fun, but it only really becomes valuable if you either have a lot of friends who use it or live in an area where there are a lot of users, such as a big city. In my case, I don’t live in a big city and I don’t have a lot of friends who use it. But I’ve played with it and over the past few months, I’ve seen a noticeable uptick in new users. I think there is promise.
For what it’s worth, I err on the side of sharing. Here’s my Foursquare stats page: foursquare
