MemberI have a friend. He’s tried to download MSN many times, but ended up deleting it because he can’t get it to sign in. He recently got Trillian and put his MSN screen name on it. It didn’t work on that as well! The account was still active too.
He’s got McAfee’s Personal Firewall Plus on his computer. I think that is the problem.
I’m trying to help him, but I’ve run out of thoughts on what it can be.

Participantits his firewall for sure. If hes got any kind of networking you might want to look into that as well. As for mcafee try uninstalling it and seeing if it works, if it does just install Mcafee again and it should work

MemberPlease if possible, give as much detail of the problem as possible. It helps us to help you quicker:).
My question…
What exactly happens when he tries to sign in? Does he get an error code? Or does it just revert to the sign-in screen before? Does it say incorrect username and/or password?More information can be useful on this topic. Thanks for asking tho, hopefully it is solved soon. Good Luck;)

It’s been awhile since he tried the MSN itself. I think it was the error message that mentions proxy settings, LAN, and a firewall.
He’s connected to the internet from a cable modem. And he has that firewall which I keep telling him might be his problem. He says that it’s supposed to allow it. There might be another sercurity program thing like that which he isn’t telling me about… so far McAfee is my enemy! *shudder*
I’ve gone over the sign-in password and address so many times with him. The account works on my computer….but not his. And my account doesn’t work on his.
He has no network. At least to my knowlegde since it is a home computer and there is only one in the house. LOL!
BTW, he’s running Windows XP. That’s all I know. Give me specific things you want to know and I can figure it out for ya’s. 😉

That won’t work, as the firewall will still block MSN Messenger from accessing the Internet. You will have to configure the firewall to allow MSN Messenger access to the Internet.
Also, you do not need to uninstall McAfee to figure out if the firewall is causing the problem. You can simply disable the firewall, then see what happens.

Participantdisabling Mcafee doesnt always work, it will still act as a firewall if its blocked ports , as this is a setting that doesnt reset itself until you uninstall Mcafee
