She’s using 5.5.3595 with middleman and she can never see the AIM Smiley’s i’m sending her. Can someone tell me howcome?
August 7, 2005 at 5:21 am #127171Jon8RFCMemberI’m assuming you mean the unique smilies that are different than the default yellow ones.
She MUST use 5.0.xxxx or great to view them. As far as I know, she must be using an actual AIM client, because I doubt any other third-party AIM clients added the functionality to display those images. The way they’re sent are as unique HTML tags; t’s something that doesn’t exist in traditional HTML The tags look something like or something along those lines…I can’t remember exactly and don’t want to dig up logs, but that explanation should give you the general idea.
SO…she needs an actual AIM client, and it MUST be 5.0 or greater. 4.8 and previous cannot display those images, they will be the default yellow.
August 7, 2005 at 5:41 am #127167jasynMemberI’m using Messengermate with AIM 5.5 and she’s using Middleman with AIM 5.5 as well .. when I’m using the AIM Smiley’s that Messengermate gives (the customized ones), she just seems text smiley’s in grey like 😉 or 🙂 or :*) or :*|. Is this an option that disables her to view graphical smiley’s? She can see the default AIM ones.
and the option Disable Graphical Smiley’s under IM/Chat for AIM Preferences is unchecked

August 9, 2005 at 7:50 am #127172Jon8RFCMemberIf the smilies are made by versoworks, then they won’t be viewable to other users (unless they can be viewed by another messenger:mate user). The ones that cn be viewed by any AIM5 user are the ones with in the html. Check the m:m log with the friend that can’t see the smilies, then view the html source. You can open the file with notepad and you’ll see the source. If you don’t see something along the lines of this:
🙂
then she won’t be able to see them at all.August 9, 2005 at 7:45 pm #127168jasynMemberi’ve checked through the logs and i get something along those lines for the smiley’s 😉 so i don’t believe there is anything special about the ones versoworks uses .. they work with everyone else who has aim 5.5 and above .. except for her .. just curious that’s all

If it was an issue of not being able to grab the data fo the smilie from the server, it should just display text : ) until it gets the data…but that isn’t the case. This doesn’t sound like a hard-to-fix problem, but I’m not coming up with anything! We’re probably just overlooking something simple, somewhere. I’ll give it a whirl tonight.

August 11, 2005 at 2:16 am #127175RustyMemberIf you on the actual AIM go to Setup > Preferences > IM/Chat/Mobile > Make sure “Disable Graphical Smileys” isn’t checked.

August 11, 2005 at 5:50 pm #127174Jon8RFCMemberWait just a tick. Ask her if she uses the middle_man feature to control the font of incoming IMs. This is ANY case whatsoever, whether she is changing even a minor thing…see if she has it turned on…period.
