Has anyone ever used GAIM before? I use it and I love it. I want to hear what other people think about it.

December 28, 2003 at 10:04 pm #86903DavidParticipantI used it when I’m running on Red Hat 9.1…but I haven’t used the Windows version. It’s much better than the AIM Client.
December 28, 2003 at 10:20 pm #86908Digerati StormMemberI use it everyday!!!
Good to hear about a fellow GAIM user.
David: The windows version is superb also. You should try it.
I run Win XP with GAIM 0.72 and it works very well.

December 29, 2003 at 8:10 am #86902CharlesMemberI love GAIM…seems like DeadAIM sorta stoll a few features from it…thank God its free…unlike DA. It has crashed a few times…but it is worth it entirely.
January 2, 2004 at 12:03 am #86904FimusMemberAnd the best thing is it’s open source
January 3, 2004 at 2:16 pm #86905melisMemberI wrote it on AOL IM section, but I’m writing again:
I use HTTPS proxy for connecting to IM programs (for ICQ and AOL IM).
GAIM doesn’t have HTTPS proxy choice in the connection preferences (only HTTP, SOCKS 4 and 5)
Do you have any idea of how can I use it, because I liked the program very much but can’t establish connection.
Thanks,

Sending pictures to friends is a little buggy. Sending files won’t work either. The main focus of GAIM is communication with everyone, not sending things other than text. But I am sure it will be fixed in the future.

January 23, 2004 at 9:15 am #86913blueyes77MemberGAIM 0.75 (Win32) is decent, but contains lots of bugs and gaps. There’s a file transfer “manager” of sorts (look under the “tools” menu), but no way to send files. Yahoo support is spotty at best, it crashes randomly when sending IMs to MSN users or at startup, and sometimes the cursor disappears when typing in an IM box. Decent app, but when it’s not even at “version 1.x” status, you can’t really expect full-fledged features or rock-solid stability. It’s completely free, so you do get what you pay for with it. It’ll only get better, I hope. Easy Message Express is another fantastic app, but since one guy writes the program, updates are bug fixes are very spotty.
February 6, 2004 at 7:27 am #86914panickedthumbMemberAll the bugs that you guys are talking about, I have experienced myself… BUT they don’t really exist at all in the *nix versions… Keep in mind that its only been around for windows for a fraction of the time that it has been for *nix.
March 5, 2004 at 6:47 pm #86906titansfanaticMemberi got gaim and I got linux redhat 9 and it wont even let me upgrade to new version and im stuck on 0.59.8 >:(
March 15, 2004 at 5:10 am #86916hoogesMemberYa, the windows version is very buggy, but the linux one is much stable and better (imagine that…)
