MemberI saw this link and had a look. It’s quite unbelivable how graphics have changed over the years. I remember the first thing we got as kids was a Sinclair Spectrum and we were over the moon if it loaded! Hey and I thought I had the world at my feet :p If any of you know what a sinclair spectrum is I will be quite surprised!! Anyway … goes to sit in my rocking chair haha

The above link show how graphics have changed on games over the years, quite amazing really. Makes you wonder what the future holds!

ParticipantWow, pretty amazing how much it has changed. You should also think about how that was only 20 years ago, we go from pixels to just about real. Imagine in 20 more years! We will probably be like inside the game.

ParticipantHow can you possibly be surprised? 20 years ago is a damn long time. Look at anything 20 years ago compared to today, it’s a huge difference. In 1983 the internet was ‘born’ (when a TCP/IP WAN was first fully operational). In 1986 the internet backbone was 56kbs lines; compare that to the 10Gbps lines in use today.
Games are exactly the same, new graphics chipsets and instruction APIs are designed, new games form. I think we’re still behind, there’s still a lot of resources constantly wasted. In 20 years your concept of ‘gaming’ will be completely different–and I still won’t be surprised.

MemberWow its awesome how Gaming has advanced over the past 20 years from pixels to real-life objects. Also I agree with MrEggalad being in a game would be cool!

ParticipantKeep in mind, all the “screenshots” for the modern games on that page aren’t actual screenshots from gameplay, but are just still promotional shots. The actual gameplay graphics aren’t as impressive.

ParticipantAh yes.. I find it quite amazing too how games looked like before and how much they have changed: from 2D to 3D, from sprites to polygons.

I know many people are fooled by promotional images like that, but have you ever played Project Gotham Racing 3 for the Xbox 360? Those, in my opinion, are some awesome graphics.

ParticipantYes, the racing one Awesomesauce mentioned really does have graphics like that. The Xbox 360’s graphics are all pretty close to the promotional ones, so yes, there is some difference but not too much of one.

Alright, I can’t vouch for all of the games, but of the ones I know of, the player GUI(s) are missing, and they’re shots of characters from angles that you’d never normally see in-game, leading me to believe they’re just promotional shots.

ParticipantTrue about the picture-angle thing. When I was searching for Project Gotham Racing 3 game screenshot, almost ALL of the pictures I found were cars from the game shot at angles you would not look at while racing, hah.

Membertoo bad there’s no graphics chip or cpu enhancement to make the games more fun..

And we all know the cars look better on the replays :p
