just like the title says, i’m chatting along with my friends and suddenly i get the error message that you normally get when you type a wrong password at logon, except that i am already logged on. ?????? if someone else was trying to log on using my id and password i would get “You have been signed off because you logged in from another computer” but this is not the case.
Pls , if anyone knows why this is happening, let me know. even if you don’t know a sollution.

I’ve never heard of this error appearing while you are logged on . Like you, i’ve only really seen the one that logs you out telling you that someone logged it in from another computer. You are right though, i doubt someone has taken your password because it wouldn’t give you that error message. The best thing i can say is that it’s probably a problem on Yahoo’s end since you are already logged on when it appears.
Have you tried un-installing then re-installing yahoo messenger? And which version are you running?
i have even tried reinstalling windows. because of the shortage of resources available on my comp, i use v7.
oh , and when i get this error , i do get logged out. normally YM tries to reconnect using the same id and passw that initiated the session in the first place. i see no reason for it to get it wrong. except if it’s a form of DoS attacking specifically YM.
I have gotten this message before and what had happened was someone was trying to gain access to my account by using ramdom passwords and when they used the limit yahoo allows it will cause a temp. block for them and pop this message up on the screen. while I was chatting with a friend under invisable mode.
I would have never figured it out if it wasn’t for knowing who was doing this. To make a long story short i have one friend and we do this to each other as a game (not in a harmful manner) and he had told me he tried until he was blocked and it just so happened to be the same time this problem occurred.
So to confirm this we did it again under controlled situation and true enough it happened.
For the other message (You have been signed off because you logged in from another computer). The person trying would have gained your password and booted you off while going on.
Is there any way you can update to the newest version 8 final?
Also, since i trust William’s experience, to be on the safe side, try changing your password, then scanning for viruses (any anti-virus you have), spyware (try Spybot Search&Destroy), and ad-ware (try Ad-Aware SE Personal)… (remember to run them all at separate times). Then if something comes up, get rid of it, then change your password again, for the final time!
