MemberMy girlfriend’s ICQ re-logs her in in the middle of chats. it will just post that she has logged in, during when she’s talking. Her yahoo messenger does the same exact thing too.
I think it started happening after she installed zone alarm.any idears?

Member.. we fixed it.:D
we installed and ran AdAware
http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet
and went through her start-up menu
http://www.greatis.com/regrun3appdatabase.htm
and cleaned things up. Some of the things on her start-up menu weren’t at greatis.com but a google search identified most of them. A few other glitches cleared up after this too.August 14, 2003 at 10:50 pm #57441jonjan

Memberthanks, we did download and run spybot too, and it did find files that AdAware didn’t catch.
Her yahoo and ICQ are still logging her in in the middle of chats, and she still has a bunch of ‘spiders’ on her computer that AdAware identifies but doesn’t give her the option of removing them:confused: they don’t have boxes next to them that she can check to have them removed.
Yesterday her computer froze and wouldn’t load xp:(!! I’m looking for anyway to get the spiders off, or some huge program that will scan and fix all problems… i can’t let her computer die because she is far away and the net is how we talk 99% of the timeAugust 21, 2003 at 1:18 pm #57438rustedtight
MemberThere are many posible reasons for the problem including lack of anti virus programs… IE she has a virus or trojan.
The OS is now corrupt.
ICQ as installed is corrupt.
A background running application is trying to gain control.
A firewall is somehow involved.
She has a router with hardware firewall thats not correctly installed.
Screen savers, the phase of the moon, cat fur on the processor, earth’s shifting magnetic field, OK the last few are maybe’s.
Complete details are required from her system, obviously she should become a member here and reply directly to questions or suggestions if this is to be effective.
Start with providing the complete build of the system and a list of installed software and a timeline related to the problem IE when did the problem start n what was installed earlier.
The quality of replies you recieve can only be based on the quality of information you provide.UPDATE… I noticed you have problems with BOTH ICQ and Yahoo chat, as these are unrelated apps running independantly it would tend to indicate the problem is NOT with either application but is with the OS or other running applications.
