Hey, i’ve followed the guide on the main page about this, and it works with my gmail account.
But I have google aps for your domain for my domain. For those memebers it connects in psi and they can see thier google talk contacts but, when i go to browse service discovery in psi, I get nothing.
I’ve tried it on every jabber server, even my own, it shows as connecting, but doesnt send any packets. Any ideas?
December 28, 2006 at 4:56 am #156098Jeff HesterKeymasterWe use Google apps for the BigBlueBall staff, too, but I haven’t tested the AIM/MSN/Y! connectivity with that account (I used my old Gmail account for that). Maybe someone else on the staff (or anyone else using a Google Talk with a custom domain) can chime in with their experience?

I have the very same problem. I got it working with my regular gmail account just perfectly. Unfortunatley I run into the same problem that service discovery just doesn’t list any services with my hosted gmail domain. I’ve tried many servers as well.
I googled and hit this page, hopefully someone can figure out a work around. Is there any other way to register the service?
May 20, 2007 at 12:14 am #156104cp8MemberI managed to find this tip:

I’ve added the SRV records to my domain. It is not working just yet. Hopefully the dns will expire soon. I will try again tomorrow.

May 20, 2007 at 5:41 pm #156101SpikeMemberGoogle Apps for your domain has different, more limited functionality in some aspects. This may just be something that can’t work unless Google adds it.

Please keep us posted! I’d love to hear if there is a way to make it work.
June 27, 2007 at 7:19 pm #156105louishMemberSame problem as of June 27th, 2007.
I could add MSN/AIM to my regular gmail account, but when I try my Google Hosted Domain account, I can not get any services listed under ANY jabber address I try. Really sucks. If anyone ever finds a solution, please post it!
January 24, 2008 at 12:35 am #156100quaffMemberhas anyone got custom_domain+gtalk+3rd_party_transports working, even after the srv updates to the dns?
April 9, 2008 at 3:47 am #156106GoogleAppsUserMemberI came across this thread while trying to do exactly what the many posters before me have been describing, and I am happy to say I’ve gotten it working.
After adding the SRV records, I also could not get a Jabber client to browse the available transports on a server, however when I attempted to register the transport by name it succeeded.
I can’t imagine why the browse functionality is working with GMail but not Google Apps, but if you can browse with another account or know the transport by name already then hopefully trying this will help.
May 19, 2008 at 4:41 pm #156107antoniochecaParticipantHi All,
I got this to work fairly easy the first thing to do is ensure Google apps for your domain is working properly and I’m sure most of you already have this setup properly and just want to add the additional functionality of having a MSN/AIM transport using google talk with google apps for your domain.
So the first thing that is really important is to add the DNS SRV Jabber records for Google talk to your domain my webhost is dreamhost they have a fairly easy way of doing this, if you have questions please feel free to post them here.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 5 0 5269 xmpp-server.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server1.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server2.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server3.l.google.com.
_xmpp-server._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server4.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 5 0 5269 xmpp-server.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server1.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server2.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server3.l.google.com.
_jabber._tcp.gmail.com. IN SRV 20 0 5269 xmpp-server4.l.google.com.Note: replace gmail.com with your domain ie. mydomain.com
After I updated the records I waited for about 24 hours (the usual) and I went ahead and connected with psi to google talk (please read note bellow) once I did that I went to services but I was unable to discover any services, so I had to manually specify a server I used msn.jabber.cd.chalmers.se which had support for msn and then all of the popups requested authorization from my msn contacts popped-up I accepted them all, closed psi client and logged in with google talk and there where my new contacts from MSN.
Note: to all of you using dreamhost please note that dreamhost also runs a jabber service, however if you want to use the one offered by google in your client (pidging/psi/gaim/adium/etc) you must specify the google servers and no the one in dreamhost it happened to me that I entered my logging info into the psi client and it automatically connected me to the one in my domain and not google this was because psi auto-detected my domain and configured itself for it so watch out.
Hope this helps you all, I also did some name formating for the contacts using the built-in address book in gmail.
