Google talk has a major flaw that will keep me and others from using it.
My buddy and I each have Google talk on both our home and work machines. The problem is that Google talk does not accurately detect which machine you are using. So he will be sending messages and right in the middle of our conversation they will all of a sudden get sent to my work machine (which is idle) instead of my home machine.
Or I try to send him messages at work, and they all go to his laptop at home even though he is actively using his machine at work.
It makes Google Talk unusable for anyone with more than 1 machine.
January 26, 2006 at 6:25 pm #136899Jeff HesterKeymasterI routinely use Google Talk on two different PCs, but I make a point of signing out when I’m leaving. If you’re only signed in at one place, this is not a problem.
For me, it’s not a “major flaw” but a minor inconvenience. What’s the point of staying signed in at home when you want to sign in from your office anyway?
January 26, 2006 at 6:49 pm #136904unsavoryMemberBecause busy absent-minded people like ourselves can never remember to sign out. And quite frankly, why should we have to? Why can’t Google talk sign you out of the other PC when you sign in like MSN, Yahoo and AIM have been ever since they were introduced?

But AIM delivers the messages to each location where you are logged in.
Actually, the way AIM handles multiple sign-ons is one of the few features I really like about AIM. If you are signed in at the office, leave for the day and sign-in at home, you have the option of remotely signing out the other connection. That would be a really nice touch for Google Talk. Maybe since Google has purchased a share of AOL, we’ll see similar functionality find it’s way into a future update.

And speaking of which, now that I went back I can’t believe all the clutter in that messenger. It is hurting my eyes!
