His name is GooglyMinotaur and he wants to be your friend — or, at least, your computerized “buddy.” The fictional Googly debuts next month as the first automated buddy for public use in the rapidly expanding world of “instant messaging”, offering marketers an innovative new way to reach consumers online.
AUTOMATED BUDDIES like Googly, commissioned by Capitol Records to answer fans’ questions about the rock band Radiohead, could well broaden the appeal of instant messaging. The idea is to give computer users simple, immediate access to a wide range of information.
“We all want to believe we can ask a computer a question and get an answer,” said Peter Levitan, CEO of Active Buddy Inc., a New York start-up developing the new instant messaging buddies.
