MemberI am thinking about purchasing an MP3 player, and am not sure if it would be a good idea to get one or not. Does anyone have one, and what is your experience with them. I did buy one several years ago when they first came out, and had a horrible experience. Parts were missing, the firmware was apparently ruined, the USB cable broke, and the jack for the cable on the player didn’t work.. Ended up finding out it had been purchased and returned and the Customer Service failed to check for missing parts and failed to check if it worked, and I was refunded 110%, but I am still skeptical.

ParticipantI have an RCA Lyra RD 1080, and it’s great.
It’s only got 128MB in it, but i’ve put it through hell and it still works fine, and it has radio in it, which might or might not be a plus for you. There’s also a model without radio for a little bit cheaper if your not going to use it.
But there’s also a 256MB model of mine, with and without radio.
If your looking for a flash memory mp3 player, I would highly recommend this. Easy to use and install.

MemberI have a Creative Nomad Zen NX 30 GB. I’ve had it for about 8 months or so and I really like it. There are a few things I don’t like, though. For example, the menu is kind of clunky, the menu dial/button is awkward, and the screen is small and hard to read when you’re driving down the road. A firmware update changed the menu style but it still hard to work through. Even though it stores 30 GB, the file system is FAT 16, I believe. Therefore, you can’t have files larger than 2 GB; it won’t accept them. Sometimes I need more than 2 GB for raw video files or backups. The only other thing I don’t really like is that it can’t be setup as a separate drive with it’s own drive letter. You have to install their drivers and access the unit a special way. You can’t run programs off it or save directly to it… it’s always a drag/drop or copy/paste to the device.
Otherwise, it’s a great little unit and it’s gotten a lot of good reviews compared to the iPods.

MemberWell my Ipod that I bought yesterday is already causing me major problems. After I put in a firewire card for it into my PC the computer stopped working. Now when I boot I get a whole bunch of beeps, and still do even after taking the Firewire out. Also, my friend dropped it, and now it is frozen after trying to play a song.
And if I did fry anything in my PC, I will have to sell the 10 GB 250$ Ipod to pay for it. 😡

Actually the Ipod is not causing any problems, your friend dropped it, what do you expect? And you messed up something else with the Fire Wire card installation in your computer, maybe reset your CMOS.

Memberya the ipod is a harddrive so if you drop it it’s gonna cause some problems…
i have an ipod and I like it… only thing I complain about is the battery lifeJune 15, 2004 at 12:06 am #78521Someguy03
MemberYa, I fixed it by doing a force shut down (Hold: Play / Pause and Menu buttons until it shuts down).
But the battery life is very annoying. Because the firewire crashes my computer I have to use the USB connection. And the USB cable doesn’t charge the Ipod why its connected to the computer like the firewire does, which is kind of annoying. But the Ipod has pulled through, and I think is worth my buy.

ParticipantYou can get a nice Bluetooth PDA with a built in digital camera AND MP3 player for about the same price as an iPod. (300$) that is, if an iPod costs 300$. Or do iPods cost 400$? I’m gonna get myself one of those. 🙂

MemberI have a MP3 Player but it works just fine. Great quality sound, and very small and portible. But for you to get an IPOD, the memory is nothing to compare. Mine is about two years old, and it can hold 128 mb of music. Its alot of songs but mabe not enough for a trip or something, but im not sue how much memory it has now adays.

MemberI have a Napster/Samsung make of an MP3 player and it’s great. I use it all the time. Battery life on it is about 6 or so hours and the memory is supposed to hold around 5,000 songs. It comes with all the attachments that you would have to buy from the IPOD like the radio transmitter so you can listen to songs through the radio with no wires and it also will record your voice or songs or whatever you want to and it’s also a radio. Cost about $300. It’s pretty cool, I like it

MemberComputer crashed while transferring music. The Ipod started blocking access to any computer that tried to access it and because of this I was unable to format my Ipod and was forced to return it. I have decided not to purchase another and go on and just get myself a IM free thing from motorola. I don’t want to risk ruining my Ipod since my computer at the moment is very unstable.
